Review: Honey P. Nutty Espresso PB Bar

On the blog so far, I've been delighted that Honey P. Nutty sought me out to send me some products to try for reviews since I've very much enjoyed their honey and peanut based products.  That enjoyment led me to give a shot to one of the odder flavors that were sent to me (although not the oddest) with this review of the Honey P. Nutty Espresso PB Bar.  This one clocks in at 1.8 ounces with a robust 251 calories and seven grams of protein.  As with the other bars, it's handmade in Santa Fe, New Mexico and is also gluten free.

Just like the other bar, this one is cornmeal based so it has that soft, cornbread like feel to it to go along with a large helping of generously sized peanuts that are spread throughout the bar.  The peanuts are mixed with ground up coffee beans and espresso to give it a darker coloring, although surprisingly not all that much coffee smell.  What this bar really smells like is a bag of peanuts as that smell overwhelms the smell of the coffee and espresso, which I have to admit, was incredibly surprising.  Since this was 1.8 ounces, it was also quite dense as well.

As I took my first bite, I expected a strong coffee flavor, despite the fact that this one did not have that strong smell.  Again, I was surprised...at first.  All I tasted initially was a strong peanut flavor and then an almost chocolate like flavoring from the espresso itself.  As I chewed through that bite in my mouth though, the coffee flavor came on late and while I'm a daily coffee drinker and can certainly appreciate the taste of coffee, I didn't really appreciate the coffee taste in this bar as it was kind of bitter and eventually ended up overpowering the peanuts.  Then honey in this bar was more of just a binder and did bring minimal sweetness, but it was basically a no show (along with the sea salt flavoring) but that is okay since the other three aforementioned flavors announced themselves as I made my way through this soft, dense and crunchy (from the peanuts, of course) bar.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Like I said, I appreciate the flavor of coffee and enjoy it, but I can say that this bar was not my cup of tea, so to speak.  Because of that, it gets a FLY BY IT rating.  Those of you out there that have a strong liking for coffee flavored products (other than or in addition to the drink) may thoroughly enjoy this, but I can say that for the first time with a Honey P. Nutty product, I was not a fan.  It was just too much coffee flavoring.

FLY BY IT!!
