Review: Haagen-Dazs Limoncello Gelato

As this week has shown, there have been some incredible Haagen-Dazs sales at my local stores this week and I've been picking up containers of their various products left and right.  So, I'm led to another product out of their new gelato line of desserts with this Haagen-Dazs Limoncello Gelato.  This was on sale at $2.49 for the fourteen ounce container and each container contains 3.5 half-cup servings at 240 calories per serving.  The great thing about this is that Limoncello is just not lemon gelato...not even close.  Well, it is close, but the other primary ingredient is something I'm a very large fan of...VODKA.  Oh boy...

As I took a look into this pint, I thought to myself that this might be the easiest product description of all time.  It's yellow gelato that is very smooth and creamy and it smells very lemon-y.  Being that vodka typically has no smell, there's no other smell here than that potent lemon smell.  That's all there is, so let's hop to the flavor.

Flavor-wise, this is just lemon.  I'm going to have to take Haagen-Dazs' word for it that there is vodka in here because I did not see how it impacted the flavor of this in anyway.  Again, vodka is mostly flavorless, so I'm sure that had a lot to do with that as well.  The flavor itself was a potent mix of sweet and tangy lemon and that lemon flavor was so strong, it was almost as if it had a "fresh" lemon flavor.  Of course, this is a frozen product, so it truly wasn't fresh, but that was the flavor conveyed and if you can do that in a frozen food (or gelato), you have got a pretty solid piece of construction.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Despite the fact that this container was just lemon and that's about it, I still give this a BUY IT rating because that lemon flavoring was wonderful and as I said, it was also fresh-like and I appreciated that.  This one is certainly not going to prompt anyone to write a love song about it, but it is a very good addition to the Haagen-Dazs gelato catalog.

BUY IT!!
