Review: Skinny Cow Chocolate Peanut Butter Low Fat Ice Cream Sandwiches

As I mentioned in my last Skinny Cow review, I had quite a sale adventure at my local Marsh Supermarket. I brought up that the best time to buy Skinny Cow products is when they are on sale because they are often overpriced for what you are getting.  As part of that sale adventure, I picked up this box of Skinny Cow Chocolate Peanut Butter Low Fat Ice Cream Sandwiches for that same sale price of $3.99.  Within each box are six sandwiches that come in at 4.0 fluid ounces and 150 calories each.  It's worth four points on the Weight Watchers PointsPlus scale as well.

I'm sure that 4.0 fluid ounces doesn't mean a lot to people, so I will just go ahead and tell you that it's quite an ample amount of ice cream treat that we are dealing with here.  As for the description, I'll take the lazy way out like I do in most Skinny Cow reviews and just copy and past the description straight from the Skinny Cow website:  "Low-fat chocolate and peanut butter ice creams swirled together and smushed between mega chocolatey wafers."  I will definitely agree with them that the chocolate wafers are mega, as I mentioned previously, and also that the ice cream is definitely swirled.  If you look at my picture above, the ice creams are swirled quite sloppily compared to the glamour shot on the Skinny Cow website.  I guess I should not have been surprised by that, but for some reason, I was.

So, what can I say about Skinny Cow's ice cream sandwich version of one of the most classic flavor combos?  Well, it wasn't bad, but it also wasn't great.  I could definitely differentiate the two flavors of ice cream, but neither was particularly rich and/or sweet.  They were very mildly tasting ice creams that while they did bring flavor, they didn't particularly impress me.  As for the chocolate wafer itself, it was just like any other ice cream sandwich wafer that I've had throughout my life. The chocolate flavor was mild and the wafer itself was doughy and mixed well with the chocolate and peanut butter flavored ice creams, but there was nothing overly impressive about it.  The entire package of this delivered what it promised in the most basic form, but outside of that, there was nothing overly impressive here.

Buy It or Fly By It?  As I mentioned in the previous sentence, nothing about this was overly impressive and I can't recommend paying Skinny Cow prices to not be impressed, thus a FLY BY IT rating.  That said, if you see this on sale or discount, it's worth picking up.  At non-sale or discount prices, you might as well pick up the generic store brand ice cream sandwiches and you'll get pretty much the same experience and similar calorie load.

FLY BY IT!!

  1. Hey! I think you labeled this with 'buy it' but gave it a 'fly by it' rating, unless I missed something. Thanks for the reviews!!

  2. I agree, don't waste your time with these. The other Skinny Cow products are usually much better.
