Review: Quaker Chewy School Days! Best Berry Granola Bar

Writing this review of another Quaker Chewy bar makes me feel kind of like Michael Corleone's quote "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me right back in" from The Godfather, Part 3.  I thought I had reviewed gotten all the Quaker Chewy bars, but little did I know that there was another group of iterations of their Chewy bar line in the stores with this School Days! offshoot.  Curiosity killed the cat and it will eventually kill me as well, so with that curiosity in mind, I picked up a box of Quaker Chewy School Days! Best Berry Granola Bars at Target (it's a Target exclusive product) for $2.29.  Each box contains eight bars and each bar is 0.91 ounces with 100 calories.  What make these bars "School Days!" is that they are specifically angled toward being a healthy snack to put in to your kids' lunch boxes.  They couldn't be more blatant about that intent based on the design of the box, eh?

Instead of the standard Chewy bar which is just granola with mix-ins of chocolate chips or whatever, this Chewy bar has the typical granola but the berry portion is a hardened fruit puree filling topped by a little bit more granola.  Definitely a different appearance here, but since this is an entirely different product line, that's to be expected of course.  The berry mixture itself was made up of raspberries and had a strong raspberry smell to go along with it.  Since fruit based Chewy bars are rare, this was a welcome change.

As I chomped my first bite, I can't say there was anything out of the ordinary about the granola mix itself, nor did I expect their to be.  It was the typical Chewy bar granola and it's like an old friend...you always know what you are going to get.  As for the raspberry puree, it had a noticeable, but not strong taste of raspberry that was neither remarkable nor bad.  What made it kind of neat though was that it's soft, jelly-like texture kind of squirted around in your mouth and added a textural difference to the typical granola chew that you'd get from one of these Chewy bars.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I can't say this bar was memorable, much like many of the Chewy bars, but it was a good bar and would make an excellent snack that gets a BUY IT rating.  It's a nice change of base from the standard chocolate, peanut butter or marshmallow based Chewy bars and hey, it's even healthy (or so they say).  Put this in your kid's lunch box or in your desk drawer at work for use in a pinch and I believe you'll be quite satisfied.

BUY IT!!
