Review: Turkey Hill Tin Roof Sundae Ice Cream

So, I mentioned that I realized that I was lacking in my Turkey Hill reviews, so I picked up a couple of containers to add to that collection and that leads me to this review of the Turkey Hill Tin Roof Sundae Ice Cream.  Like the last, I picked this up at Kroger on sale for $2.99 for a 1.5 quart container that contains roughly twelve half cup servings at 150 calories per serving.  It's an original recipe and a premium ice cream, so based on its staying power and premium description, you'd at least think it was pretty good, eh?  Well, that's what I'm here to find out!

Call it plagiarism or whatever you want to call it, but I'll just steal the description of this from the Turkey Hill website:  "Vanilla flavored ice cream swirled with chocolate fudge and choco peanuts."  Shockingly (obvious sarcasm), I can confirm that all of those things were there.  The choco peanuts were evenly spread, but they were not overwhelmingly plentiful or particularly large. What was plentiful, or at least spread more than I expected was the chocolate fudge.  Any time an add-in is spread plentifully, you at least are off to a good visual start and I've got to give Turkey Hill kudos for that.

With my first spoonful, I tried to make an objective to grab some choco peanuts, fudge and ice cream and I've glad that I did.  Starting with the ice cream, it was pretty standard stuff, but since it was premium ice cream, it was thicker and creamier than a normal budget variety ice cream and I certainly appreciated that.  Since it was pretty much standard though, I moved on to the fudge and choco peanuts and I've glad that I did because those two ingredients are what made this container delightful.  The fudge was thick, hearty and also somewhat gooey, but not in the sticky caramel kind of way.  While that was disappointing because I like it when it is gooey in the sticky kind of way, it certainly did not hamper the taste of the container. What was also delightful was the choco peanuts.  They were crunchy (DUH) and since they were covered in sweet chocolate, they had that perfect mix of sweet and salt and when you couple that with the sweetness of the fudge and the cooling ice cream, you got a sweet and salty mix.  It was more sweet than salty, but that small amount of salt saved this from being too overly sweet.  All in all, this was delightful and yes, I've used that word three times in this paragraph.

Buy It or Fly By It?  This should be obvious, right?  Anything that is delightful gets a BUY IT rating and I will happily buy this one again when Turkey Hill goes on sale and I don't see any other flavors that look appealing to me for a test drive because while this one is not going to knock your socks off, it is going to provide you with a solid tasting dessert treat.

BUY IT!!
