Review: CLIF Mojo Mixed Nuts Trail Mix Bar

Sometimes I think I write the same intro for some manufacturers with each post that I write, especially with all the CLIF Bar reviews I've done.  For example, my CLIF Bar intro seemingly starts out talking about how many products and varieties they have and blah, blah, blah.  Well, I'll spare you the full intro this time and just get right down to it on this CLIF Mojo Mixed Nuts Trail Mix Bar.  This is the not the first Mojo bar that I've reviewed and I picked this one up at Kroger for $1.00.  It's 70% organic, 1.59 ounces, 200 calories and eight grams of protein.

As you would expect from a bar with Trail Mix in the name, this bar contains a lot of the kinds of foods that you would expect to find in trail mix.  In this instance, the primary ingredients are almonds, cashews, pecans, pretzels, hazelnuts and an odd one, macadamia nut butter.  I've certainly had macadamia nuts many times in my life, but I've never had, nor heard of, macadamia nut butter before.  Along with the macadamia nut butter, all of this collection of nuts, pretzels and rice crisp is held together with all sorts of organic syrups that make this bar sticky to the touch.  As for the visual appearance of the nuts, well it's quite impressive (I just got reminded of a Frank Drebin line from Naked Gun 33 1/3...that might have made my day).  The almonds were huge and the cashews were solid sized too.  The only disappointment was that the pecans were more of "bits" than they were "pieces".  Oh well, beggars can't be choosers.

Biting into this, it was a bit softer than I would have expecting considering that there were so many nuts in here.  Don't get me wrong, it was still crunchy, but I expected this to crack in my mouth (like a cracker or potato chip) as I ate it because I was expecting that much crunch.  I guess the rice crisp and it's airy texture played more of a factor in this than I would have thought.  That said, out of all the nuts, the almonds were the most prevalent taste, which could obviously be inferred since they were the biggest nut in the mix.  Also packing quite a taste and honestly most of the taste in the bar were the pretzel pieces.  They were salty, crunchy and permeated the entire bar.  In actuality, this tasted like a pretzel bar that had nuts as a compliment and not the other way around.  There was no sweetness...this was saltiness in all its delight.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I love trail mix and will eat just about anything made up of trail mix, so I'm inclined to give a positive review.  Still, my pre-dispositions aside, this is still a good bar outside of those, so I definitely give it a BUY IT rating.  If you are thinking of buying this though, be prepared for the salty taste of the bar (and no sweetness) and have a glass of water nearby because this one's going to need some fluid to help it get down and quench your thirst.

BUY IT!!
