Review: Good 'n Natural Chocolate Bar

I admit that I treat this blog as kind of a side job.  What I mean by that is that I'm clearly trying to draw income from this blog, albeit a small one, by putting ads up on the sides and in my posts.  In order to increase page views, I often times check the search terms that people have used to get to my blog and when I saw that people were doing searches on Good 'n Natural bars, I knew I had to do another review to compliment the two that I've done already.  The funny thing is that I wouldn't ordinarily do a review of a bar that was just named Chocolate since it is seemingly boring, but I'm clearly pandering to the masses with this one.  Anyway, I picked this up at Kroger for $0.99 and it comes in at two ounces with 230 calories and ten grams of protein.

Being that this is a fruit, nut and seed bar, you'd expect that there would be a lot of fruits, nuts and seeds in this bar and that is definitely the case when you look at the ingredient list of the bar.  Included in the sticky mix (bound together by rice and maple syrups) are almonds, dried apples, oats, pumpkin seeds, walnuts and other assorted ingredients.  Giving this bar its chocolate flavor and also strong chocolate smell is what I would assume to be a healthy helping of cocoa powder. Again, no real surprises, but I feel obligated to lay it all out on the table.

So, as I bit into this densely packed bar I was expecting a strong taste of chocolate to match the smell, but I was entirely deceived.  The chocolate taste was there at the very beginning but it faded as quickly as the taste in your typical piece of original flavored bubble gum, meaning that the flavor was gone in about 2.5 seconds.  After that, I was just chewing a bunch of fruits, nuts and seed and none of them had any real flavor at all.  In fact, all this bar had going for it was that the fruits, nuts and seeds added for a crunchy mouthfeel to go along with the other soft and chewy aspects of the bar.  Other than that, there was absolutely nothing going on here.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I guess I shouldn't be surprised that I was bored by a bar with such a simple name, but I was even more bored than I expected with this bar, so it gets a FLY BY IT rating.  Looking back as I type this review, I've come to the conclusion that this bar was just awful.  Little to no flavor and basically just something to chew on for a minute or so.  Lame attempt at something, which is sad because had this had a strong chocolate flavor, it would have made for an excellent and healthy way to fulfill the occasional chocolate craving that I and I know others occasionally get.

FLY BY IT!!
