Review: Dannon Light & Fit Toasted Coconut Vanilla Yogurt

Time for another review of Dannon's Light & Fit yogurt product line.  I've previously reviewed the giant 32 ounce containers as well as doing a couple of reviews on the smaller six ounce single serving containers as well.  As you can tell by the picture above, this is another single serve container review and this time, I'm focusing on the Toasted Coconut Vanilla flavor.  I picked up a four pack (they call it a Super Saver pack) of these single serving cups at Meijer on sale for $1.99 and each cup is 80 calories and zero fat.  After going most of my life genuinely not liking coconut, I've recently developed a serious love of it, so I was definitely anxious to dig into this.

I don't know why, but prior to me opening this cup, I expected it to be a cup of vanilla yogurt with small pieces of shaved coconut scattered throughout.  Instead, what I got was a cup of milky white vanilla yogurt that was mixed with coconut yogurt (or flavoring) and no chunks/shavings/whatever.  I've got to say I was disappointed, but hey, it is what it is.  That said, when I smelled the yogurt (it was just standard yogurt in texture), I could distinctly smell both the coconut and vanilla and both were strong, so that was encouraging that based on smell alone, Dannon was going to deliver on the promised flavors, which I've found to be a problem with these single serving cups before.

The smell of the yogurt cup was a good harbinger of what was to come in terms of the taste because I could definitely taste both of the advertised flavors.  Both were strong tastes, although I will say that the "toasted" flavor of the coconut was more prevalent than the tangy flavor of the vanilla and you'd expect that since coconut was listed first in the product name.  That said, I'm not sure how "toasted" applies to this flavor because it tasted like typical coconut to me.  Not that I'm complaining though because whatever you want to call this coconut flavor still did have an appealing taste to me and I certainly enjoyed that.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I've got to say that I really enjoyed this flavor, so I give it a BUY IT rating.  The coconut flavor while quite strong, was not overbearing and with a lot of the coconut products that I've tried, the coconut flavor ends up getting overpowered.  As I mentioned previously, that is definitely not the case with this yogurt cup and it's because of this wonderful coconut flavor combined with their usually fine tasting vanilla yogurt that makes this product a winner for Dannon.  That said, if you don't particularly care for coconut, you are really not going to care for this one because the strength of the flavor will definitely remind you what you are eating with each successive spoonful.

BUY IT!!
