Review: Quaker Chewy Cocoa Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Granola Bar

I'll be the first to admit that there's nothing special about most of the Quaker Chewy granola bars (here are my reviews).  They have raisins or chocolate chips or cherries or peanut butter flavoring.  Other than that, there's not a whole lot going on.  On the other hand, they do have four varieties that differ from most of the bars as they are from a separate product line called "Cocoa" where the bars are "made with real cocoa" and this Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough granola bar is the first that I'll be looking at that differs from the norm.  This bar weighs 0.84 ounces like all other Chewy bars and contains 90 calories.  I picked it up as part of a box of eight on sale at Meijer for $2.00.

As you can see, this bar visually differs from all the other Chewy bar flavors as it is quite obviously chocolate with its darker exterior.  Outside of that darker flavoring/coloring in this bar, it looks like any other Chewy granola bar with the Quaker granola mix and then chocolate chips mixed in as well.  Oddly enough though, most of the chocolate chips were all clumped toward the bottom of the bar.  The one thing missing was cookie dough pieces, but I'm sure the miracles of modern science will provide that with artificial flavoring as opposed to actual cookie dough bits.

When you see a granola bar that claims to taste like cookie dough but does not have any cookie dough bits, you've got to be a little skeptical going in and I admit that I was.  Despite that skepticism, this granola bar did deliver and legitimately did taste like cookie dough.  It wasn't a strong cookie dough taste, but you could definitely tell it was there.  Basically, that's the same way that I'd describe the chocolate as well.  You could tell it was there, but it wasn't a particularly strong flavor.  One thing I did find different is that the chocolate basically tasted like they took a container of hot chocolate powder and dipped this bar in it before they packaged it.

Buy It or Fly By It?  BUY IT.  Anytime you can make something that successfully resembles cookie dough, it is definitely worth a purchase and Quaker has done that with this bar.  The only negative to these granola bars is their price.  You get a box of eight of these for the same price that you would get a box of ten of the standard Chewy granola bars.  I guess Quaker somehow views this cocoa bar as their "premium" line of bars and charges the same for less.  LOL, I don't know why, but the thought of that last sentence made me laugh because of its absurdity.

BUY IT!!
