Review: Marathon Smart Stuff powered by Snickers Crunchy Honey Graham Bar

In my previous reviews of the Marathon powered by Snickers bar products, I've actually been very impressed with their quality and taste.  Sure, they aren't the most perfect bars health wise, but they do a fairly decent job in that department and they taste pretty darn good too.  Much like last time, I picked up Crunchy Honey Graham bar at CVS for $0.99 and it comes it at 1.23 ounces.  Within that 1.23 ounces of fun is 140 calories and five grams of protein.  This bar is also made with no artificial flavors, sweeteners, colors or everyone's favorite enemy, high fructose corn syrup.  So, in general, they try to do a decent job of limiting the amount of chemicals that they dump in here.

For only being 1.23 ounces, this bar feels pretty dense and that's a nice thing because it's not a large bar in terms of tape measure proportions (think Chewy bar size in length).  The bar consists of a chocolate base layer and then on top of that is the typical rice crisp mix along with some fairly decent sized peanuts.  The rice crisp mix is then held together by caramel and includes cinnamon, honey and some of the components that you would use if you were making an actual graham cracker (flour, etc.).  It's not a lot to look at, but who really cares if it tastes good, right?

Well, after my first bite, I was taken aback by the strength of both the caramel and chocolate flavoring.  Both were thick and sweet.  In fact, the honey graham flavoring was barely detectable and that was only at the back end of the bite.  Still it was there and being that was the flavor that bar is trying to sell, that is a good thing.  The peanut chunks were not noticeable at all and really did not bring any additional crunch to the bar as it was generally just soft like a Quaker Chewy bar.  All in all though, this was more of a chocolate and caramel bar and being that it is "powered by Snickers", I guess I shouldn't really be surprised by that.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Chocolate and caramel are my favorite flavor combination, so it's obviously going to get a BUY IT rating.  If you like that flavor combination, this is a nice little treat to get you through your morning or afternoon if you are feeling a hunger pang.  It's sweet enough to trick you into thinking its a Snickers bar, but the granola at least makes you feel healthy why eating a sweet treat.

BUY IT!!

  1. I just can't bring myself to buy a "Snickers" labeled energy bar...it just seems to weird....that line between healthy power bar and bad-for-you candy bar is getting blurred.

But I may just have to try it...it does seem VERY tasty
