Review: CLIF Chocolate Chip Peanut Crunch Bar

As I've said many, many times before, CLIF keeps me busy around here.  Due to that, I'll dispense with the intro where I try to write something cute and/or funny and I'll just get straight to the review.  This time, I'm reviewing the CLIF Chocolate Chip Peanut Crunch bar.  This one is the standard 2.4 ounces in weight, contains 240 calories and ten grams of protein.  I picked it up at Meijer at the regular price of $1.09.  As with most CLIF bars, this one is made up of predominantly organic products such as oats and soybeans.

Looking at this one, the first noticeable difference was that this one's oat mix was slightly darker than the typical oat mix of a CLIF bar.  Since this had chocolate as one of the flavors, it was obvious that chocolate was the primary source of this darker color.  Looking at the rest of this, you can see that there are sporadic chocolate chips and small peanut pieces scattered throughout the bar.  The oat pieces are also quite noticeable as well.  Everything in this bar is then bound together by peanut butter, so that's about it.  Nothing earth shattering in this one, as you'd expect if you've reviewed or eaten enough of these CLIF products.

Also, as with most CLIF products, the oat mix was the primary flavor here.  Following that was a strong flavor of hearty peanut butter.  It wasn't as sweet as a lot of peanut butters, but it did have a faint glimmer of the sweetness that we have come to expect in peanut butter.  In fact, this hearty peanut butter overpowered the rest of the bar so much that I could not really taste the chocolate in the chips at all.  I knew they were there because they changed the texture from time to time as I was chewing, but they really did not have a strong flavor.  Speaking of the chewy...placing the word "Crunch" in the name of this bar is a misnomer.  Nothing about this bar was crunchy at all.  In fact, it was chewy like a typical CLIF bar and it was difficult to chew at that.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Naming issues aside, this was not a bad bar, so I would BUY IT.  In fact, I would compare the taste of this bar to the Quaker Chewy Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip bar and if you like that bar and/or are a peanut butter person, you are going to like this bar.  The only difference between the two is that the Quaker Chewy bar has "chewy" in the name and it is crunchy, while this CLIF bar has "crunch" in the name, yet it is chewy.  Funny how that works out, eh?

BUY IT!!

  1. That looks so yummy and scrumptious! Just don't forget to remind your kids to brush their teeth well after eating too much sweets so they won't need to go to the Rockford dental care because of toothaches or cavities.
