Review: Walden Farms Caramel Syrup

If you ever take a look at the Walden Farms website, you can see that they have A LOT of calorie free products.  Because of this and my propensity for saving calories, you are going to see A LOT of reviews on these products and next on the list is the Caramel Syrup.  If there's one thing I love, it is caramel flavored food, so this one was right up my alley.  I picked this twelve ounce container up at Kroger for $3.69.

Texturally, this does not compare to actual caramel at all.  Actually, it is kind of runny like a lot of Walden Farms products can tend to be.  Caramel syrup, while not creamy, does at least have some sort of "body" and gooey-ness to it and this does not have that.  Seeing that the syrup on this bottle appears as if it has some body to it, I would almost consider that false advertising, but whatever...I'm not going to split hairs over it, especially when restaurants do this all the time.

In terms of taste compared to regular caramel syrup, I would say that this one is pretty close.  While it lacks the body and stickiness of regular caramel syrup, it does have enough of the flavor components to trick you into thinking you are eating actual caramel syrup, which is nice.  The one thing this does have though is a slight acidic bite at the end, but when you've had as many Walden products as I have, you get used to that because they all have that bite (some of them have it stronger than others).

Buy It of Fly By It?  Definitely BUY IT.  I usually put this stuff on oatmeal, ice cream or parfaits and it works great.  It is runny and you have to use a bit more than you'd like because of this, but it's really the flavor you are going after here and not really the texture.  It's a sacrifice that I'm willing to make in the never ending calorie war.

BUY IT!!

  1. so, according to their site, it's basically caramel flavored tap water with a little splenda to thicken & sweeten it up? that's just weird.... yet still I am tempted to try it.

    1. Definitely try it. It's a reasonable enough approximation of the real thing that I love it. I think others, including you, would feel the same.

  2. Adding this to oatmeal seems like a good idea because of it's liquidity. I do it with those sugar free coffee syrup things by torani. Add some chocolate chips and you have a nice caramel chocolate chip oatmeal cookie vibe going on.

  3. Great Review! and spot on. I have this in my fridge right now. Its good, but I like the caramel "dip" more. Its thicker. Many Walden Farms products are amazing (like the salad dressings)...but others really are not too good. The jams are kind of disappointing.

Hey Indianapolis Eater, you need to try the NEW honey-mustard-mayo. It has got to be one of my new favorite items from Walden Farms. Just yesterday I made an amazing sandwich with it.

    1. I haven't seen that one in the stores that I frequent, so I'll have to keep my eyes open for that next time that I make a big Walden Farms purchase off of Amazon. Thanks for the heads up!

  4. I bought the normal syrup. And I must say that I loved. The first product I did not like them much, the peanut butter. I was super scared to buy a second product, because are not cheap and throwing food away a sin for me. But not regretted it, he has the texture much like a normal one. I must confess, I do not chereio, did not want to find fault.
