Review: Dannon Oikos Blueberry 0% Greek Yogurt

Sometimes when I review multiple products from the same product line, I feel like a broken record and that's what I'm starting to feel like with these Oikos product reviews.  As a way to mix it up, did you know that Oikos means "house" in Greek?  So, the name of the product line of these yogurts is basically Dannon House.  Wow, interesting, eh?  Okay, maybe not.  Anyway, I picked this 5.3 ounce cup of Blueberry 0% Greek yogurt at Marsh for $1.00 and it contains 130 calories and twelve grams of protein, just like the other Oikos yogurts that I've reviewed so far.

Just like the Black Cherry version, this yogurt cup is part of the Fruit on the Bottom subset of Oikos Greek yogurts, so all the blueberries and their blueberry "jam" is below the thick Greek yogurt.  As always, I stirred it up to the top to show you how big some of the fruit chunks were and as you can see in the picture above, these are fairly decent sized blueberry chunks that Dannon has placed in this yogurt cup.  This seems to be pretty much the norm and that is a welcome norm.  The rest of the yogurt cup is your usual Greek yogurt, although it was watery when I opened, which is what also happened in my Black Cherry review.

In terms of taste, this was the one yogurt that actually tasted like Greek yogurt in that you could clearly taste the tartness that I've come to expect in Greek yogurts.  In my previous Oikos reviews, that tartness was masked by the fruit/honey, but in this case, there was no masking at all.  It wasn't a powerful taste, but it was there and I'm sure some of it had to do with the fact that blueberries are usually both sweet and tart and that applied to the blueberries in this yogurt cup.  Their solid size provided a nice break up from the "chunky" Greek yogurt as I plowed through each spoonful.  All in all, not a bad flavor.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Well, this one gets a BUY IT rating because it is not a bad yogurt.  That said, it's is the least tasty out of the Oikos reviews I've done so far, so if you are standing in the store and choosing flavors, put this one a bit down your list because it is the least appealing of the bunch.  Of course, if you are obsessed with blueberries, your opinion might change, but that's your own prerogative.  I'm just giving you the opinion of one crazy food dude.

BUY IT!!

    1. The funny thing is that I've only scratched the surface of what is available at my local stores. I could start a blog about only Greek yogurt and never run out of material. It's incredible.
