Review: Zone Perfect Chocolate Coconut Crunch Nutrition Bar

This is the third Zone Perfect Nutrition bar that I've reviewed and while I was very impressed with the first two and gave them BUY IT reviews, let's see if this one turns out equally as well (fingers crossed!).  This time I'm looking at the Chocolate Coconut Crunch flavor.  It's from the All-Natural Classics line of bars and for semantics purposes, I picked it up on sale at Kroger for $1.00.  It weighs in at 1.76 ounces like most of their bars, consists of 210 calories and also fifteen grams of protein.

As you can see, this one looks pretty much exactly like the last Zone Perfect bar that I reviewed except that they've substituted out the almonds and raisins for little chunks of coconut.  Everything else is essentially the same...Rice Krispie treat-like interior mixed with the little chunks of coconut and then surrounded by the thin chocolate covering.  Again, there's enough chocolate here to cover the bar, but it's not a thick chocolate.  That's disappointing.

Sometimes disappointing looks can cover up a great tasting bar like it did with the last Zone Perfect bar.  This time, that was not the case though as this one disappointed the heck out of me.  The coconut flavor, while in the taste, was very, very faint.  Honestly, I ate half the bar and didn't really think coconut at all.  With the second half of the bar, I really concentrated to find the coconut flavor and while I did find it, I found it virtually non-existent and that stinks because I've started to become a coconut fan.  Like with the last bar, the chocolate taste was also disappointing.  It was there for appearance and a bit of sticky texture as you chewed it, but the taste was not there.  As for the rest of the bar's interior, it was extremely crunchy, but essentially flavorless.

Buy It or Fly By It?  FLY BY IT.  If you like nutrition bars that don't taste like anything, this is right up your alley.  When I eat though, I like to taste things, so I would not recommend this one and I'll never be getting it again, no matter how desperate I am for coconut.  Too bad, because I was really looking forward to this bar after having such a nice "winning" streak with Zone Perfect bars so far.  There's more to come though, so I'll see if I can get back on a positive streak.
