I've reviewed the CLIF Kid Z Bar Full Moon Brownie before and this Chocolate Brownie bar is essentially the same product minus the white chocolate chips. Again, it's roughly the same size in surface area as a Quaker Chewy bar, but it is a bit more dense at 1.26 ounces. It clocks in at 130 calories and a humorously minuscule three grams of protein. In all fairness though, it's technically designed for kids, but it does make a nice little snack size bar for adults like me too. I picked this one up at Meijer for $0.69.
As you can see this one is made up of a tightly compacted chocolate rolled oat mix as most CLIF bars are (they are also organic) and being that I love oats, this is a very appealing thing to me. It's fairly sticky and somewhat soft once you bend it, so for comparison purposes, it does not have the crunch of a Quaker Chewy bar. Even though it is made of oats, it sill somehow manages to give the visual appearance of a brownie.
In terms of taste, this one tastes just like a chocolate brownie would taste if it was made of oats. The chocolate is strong, sweet and hearty and makes a delectable mix. It's soft and chewy and if you close your eyes and allow your mind to wander, you might even be able to fool yourself into thinking that you actually are eating a brownie. It's funny to say that, but that was what I was thinking as I was spacing out while mindlessly eating. Since chocolate and brownie are the only things this bar is trying to do, there isn't really much else to say about this one. That's not a bad thing though as the two things that they are trying to do are done quite well.
Buy It or Fly By It? BUY IT for yourself or for kids. It's small, sweet and provides a nice little between meal snack. It's not the greatest thing in the world, but it is still quite good and worth eating if you can get your hands on it and for a bar that sell for less than $0.75 in most places, it's a pretty decent bargain too.
