Review: Chobani Honey 0% Greek Yogurt

This is not the first Chobani review here and I'm sure it won't be the last as companies always look for reasons to introduce new flavors into their product lines.  I've had varying successes and failures with Chobani, so the next flavor to look at is the Honey flavored zero percent fat Greek Yogurt.  This one weighs six ounces, has 150 calories and contains sixteen grams of protein.  I picked it up on sale at Kroger for $1.00.

As you can see in the picture, there's not a lot to this.  It's Greek yogurt, which means it is thick and creamy and it is bright white (ignore the bad lighting in my picture that makes it look off-white and just take my word for it).  Outside of that, there's not anything else going on here.  I will say that it does smell very tart, but outside of that, this is pretty basic stuff.

The smell was a good indicator of the taste, because this one was extremely tart.  I know Greek yogurts are tart in general, but this one seemed to go the extra mile in its tartness.  Outside of the tart flavor, I tasted virtually nothing else.  Well, that's not necessarily true...I did taste a faint vanilla flavoring, but there was NO indication of any sort of honey flavor in this yogurt at all.  No sweetness or anything.  If you are going to advertise yourself as a particular flavor, shouldn't you at least have some sort of faint taste of that flavor?  I would think so, but apparently Chobani disagrees.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Easy...FLY BY IT.  This is basically just plain Greek yogurt.  That's not a horrible thing, but I'm sure that isn't what was intended.  If you like plain, you can buy this OR you could just buy the container that says Plain on it.  You'd be getting the same thing either way.  Chobani products are frustrating...I want to like them, but it seems like they have more misses than hits.  Oh well, back to the drawing board.

FLY BY IT!!

  1. I think the Fage Peach Greek Yogurt is the best, and I have tried a lot of Greek Yogurts.

    1. First, thanks for the comment!

Second, Fage is on my list of Greek yogurts to try, so I will get there eventually!

  2. I'm always suspicious of the honey flavored greek yogurts. Adding your own honey to plain yogurt is so delicious, I can't imagine that the honey flavored is going to measure up. I'll happily fly by this one. One of the most decadent greek yogurt treats ever is plain yogurt with a generous drizzle of honey and some fresh bing cherries. So pretty and so yummy.

  3. Hi there! Came across your blog looking for a review of Odwalla's Super Protein bar and then peeked around a bit. I am a HUGE fan of Greek yogurt, but I pretty much swear by Fage because it's the only one (to my knowledge) that doesn't use pectin as a thickening agent (instead it uses the traditional Greek method of straining, or something). Look forward to hearing what you think of it when you try it!

  4. I just tried the Honey flavored Chobani yogurt and came across your review because I actually thought they left the honey out and wanted to see if there was anyone else who had similar issues. Your right, there is nothing special about this flavor and it definately does not taste like honey! I will not be buying that one again.

    1. That's exactly what brought me to this website as well. I had my first try of Chobani yogurt because I heard a lot of buzz about it lately. I bought the Honey flavored and couldn't taste any honey. I also didn't care for how sour it was. What's all the hype???

    2. I just did the exact same thing. I always eat Chobani, but had never tried the honey flavor and thought I would give it a try. I thought the same thing as all of you...I thought they forgot the honey! It taste just slightly less tart than the plain. Yuk.

    3. yeah I agree fully. Pulled it out of my fridge excitedly this morning and was like "wheres the honey?!" It tasted disappointingly BLAND, oh well, next time I'll be sure to bring my own honey to add (or just get another flavor)

  6. Totally agree!
I can accept the plain flavor, but it mentions "Honey" on the cover. Are you kidding me?

  7. Where is the honey in Chobani honey yogurt? And it smells like sour cream! I prefer Chobani's blueberry.

  8. You and the others are right -- the honey flavor is very weak. It's there, but nowhere near enough to meet a typical consumer's expectation. I can sense the honey very vaguely. This is what brought me to this page -- I wanted to see if others had the same experience/thoughts!
As mentioned, you're better off buying plain yogurt and mixing in honey bought separately.
