Review: Yoplait Key Lime Greek Yogurt

I really want to like Greek yogurt and have done many reviews to prove it.  I really, really do.  Health benefits aside (two times the protein of regular yogurt!), I do get tired of pudding from time to time (not often) and having another nice, cool and refreshing treat option is something that I am very much interested in.  It's because of this that I've been trying out Chobani Greek yogurt products and also Yoplait Greek yogurt products.  On the Yoplait front, I am now led to their Key Lime flavor of zero fat Greek yogurt.  I picked this one up on sale at Meijer on sale for $1.00 and it packs a robust 160 calories and fourteen grams of protein into a six ounce container.

As you can hopefully see (poor lighting quality has done me in again), this one is pretty much just like standard Greek yogurt in its texture with one difference:  this one has a slightly greenish hue to it since this is Key Lime flavor and they want to emulate that flavor and appearance.  Outside of that, there's nothing really surprising here (no fruit chunks, etc.), so it's not worth it to spend any more time here.

After my first spoonful, I could only think of one word to describe this and that was "odd."  Lime is ordinarily tart and so is Greek yogurt, so you would expect this one to be very tart in its taste, except in this case, it wasn't.  If anything the key lime flavor nullified the tartness of the yogurt and made it a cool tasting blob of weirdness with only a slight lime flavor.  It was thick and creamy as you'd expect, but I can't think of any other way to describe the taste other than to say it was odd or weird.  As you can imagine, that is not a compliment.  I don't really have a lot to say other than that because I can't possibly think of any other way to describe this.

Buy It or Fly By It?  If the two words a reviewer uses to describe a flavor are "odd" and/or "weird," than it is not much of a leap to guess that the results on this one are FLY BY IT.  Unless you have a borderline obsession with key limes or are a masochist, stay away from this one at all costs.
