Review: Ben & Jerry's Cinnamon Buns Ice Cream

Next up in the Ben & Jerry's endless (and growing) list of reviews is the Ben & Jerry's Cinnamon Buns Ice Cream flavor ice cream.  This one combines two classic comfort food treats by taking the warm gooey cinnamon bun (yummy) with ice cold ice cream (also yummy).  Now, hot and cold usually create a mess, but let's see if Ben & Jerry's was able to overcome this problem.  I picked up a pint of this at Meijer on sale for $3.00 and each serving in the pint (four total) contains 290 calories, so it's not exactly the "healthiest" of all the Ben & Jerry's options.  Of course, Cinnamon Buns are just about the unhealthiest thing in the world too (and one of the most delicious), so the fact that this one has such a high calorie count is kind of expected.

Oh yeah, full disclosure here:  I love cinnamon and pretty much everything that I eat that has cinnamon is going to be thought of positively in my mind, especially cinnamon buns.  With that and Dubba's glowing review at On Second Scoop, I knew I had to give this one a shot.

Ben & Jerry's describes this as "Caramel Ice Cream with Cinnamon Bun Dough & a Cinnamon Streusel Swirl" and as you can see this caramel ice cream and cinnamon streusel swirl gives the ice cream a slightly tan colored tint, much like you'd get in a normal cinnamon roll.  The ice cream is then mixed in with surprisingly large and plentiful cinnamon chunks.  Since this is ice cream, you'd expect them to be rock hard, but they really are not.  In fact, they are soft and chewy like a normal cinnamon bun.  I don't know how Ben & Jerry's continues to make these add-ins to their ice creams that maintain their desired soft textures, but they've managed to do it again.

As for my first spoonful...basically, my eyes rolled back in my head out of sheer delight and pleasure.  This stuff was FREAKING DELICIOUS.  The caramel ice cream mixed with the cinnamon was a perfect pairing.  The cinnamon flavoring was Batman (star) of the pint while the caramel ice cream was a more than capable Robin (sidekick).  These two flavors could fight crime on their own and I would be a happy man.  But, I'm not done with this review yet!  I've still got to talk about the cinnamon buns!  All I can say is, "WOW!"  Like I said, they maintain their soft texture and they add a beautiful, doughy chewiness to this entire pint.  While the cold cinnamon bun took some getting use to (it only took about 2.9 seconds), it was so worth it once I was use to it.  All the components of this ice cream mix perfect to make you think you actually are eating a cinnamon bun, albeit a frozen one, and that is never a bad thing.

Buy It or Fly Buy It?  Being that I find this flavor to be pure heaven in my mind, I say definitely BUY IT.  Don't hesitate, don't think twice and do not pass go.  Just go to the store and buy it and you'll thank me later.  And, since I made a disclosure earlier, I'll make another one here:  the pictures that I used from this review are from the second pint of this that I had.  I devoured the first one too quickly and forgot to take pictures.  LOL.

BUY IT!!

  1. I thought Cinnamon Buns Ben & Jerry's was pure bliss as well. My top two flavors are Cinnamon Buns and Chunky Monkey, with Boston Cream Pie and Cherry Garcia not far behind.

I am loving your reviews. Keep them coming!

  2. @Anonymous: First, thanks for reading and keep coming back! Second, I will have a Boston Cream Pie review coming in the future (I've got about four months of material written, so it'll be on here some time. Stay tuned). Third, not a huge Cherry Garcia guy, but have never had Chunky Monkey and probably won't since I very much do not like bananas. Still, I have heard other people swear by it, so you are not alone.

  3. This is by far the best creation to come from the beautiful minds of Ben and Jerry's flavorists.
