Review: Quaker Popped Cheddar Cheese Rice Snacks

Editor's Note:  While the product has stayed the same, Quaker now markets these under a different named and they are now called "Quaker Popped Rice Snacks." The review below applies the same.

Quaker Quakes rice snacks:  yours and my favorite product reviews.  Ha!  Next in line is the Cheddar Cheese flavored rice snack.  At 140 calories per serving (about three per bag), this ranks as the most calorie laden offering in the Quakes product line.  I picked this one up at Meijer on sale for $1.00 (as you can probably tell, I only buy Quakes when they are on sale for $1.00 or less).

Using the description system that I came up with in my Sweet Chili rice snacks review, I would say that these fall into the Powdery Quake group of rice snacks.  Each Quake is coated in a cheddar dust that makes everything quite messy when eating these.  They crumble easily, so have a vacuum and/or broom nearby when eating, because you are going to have a mess to clean up.

When I first bit into these things, my first thought was "Cheetos".  They were more airy than Cheetos and the cheddar flavoring wasn't as strong as Cheetos, but there was a definite resemblance.  So much so in fact that all I could think about while I devoured these things was how much more these made me want Cheetos.  By the way, that's not a bad thing because I don't even like Cheetos much at all, yet these things were cheddar-y enough that it made me want something that I would not normall have any desire to eat.  Like just about every other Quake review I've done though, the strength and tastiness of this depends on whether you get a Quake that is well covered in cheese dust or not.  Those that are well covered are outstanding.  Those that are poorly covered...well, not so much.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I would say to BUY IT.  The artificial cheese powder is enough to transport you to the land of Cheetos and plentiful cheese and that's enough for me.  When they are on sale, these are going on my definite buy list from now on.

BUY IT!!
