Review: Skinny Cow Peanut Butter Flavor Heavenly Crisp Candy Bar

A few months back, Skinny Cow announced to much fanfare that they were going to step outside their successful line of frozen treats and start offering a candy line of Heavenly Crisp bars and Dreamy Clusters.  Curiosity sometimes kills the cat and in this case, it caused me to make a purchase in their candy bar line with this Peanut Butter Heavenly Crisp bar.  Try that one on for size...have a longer name!  Seriously, do they not see that candies are often marked as single iconic one or two word names?  Snickers, PayDay, Nestle Crunch, Reese's Pieces, M&M's, etc.  I think those candies have done okay for themselves.  Obviously Skinny Cow doesn't believe in the same market research.  Name aside, these things are 110 calories, so they are not calorie busters on that front.  I picked up a six pack box of these babies at Meijer on sale for $3.49.

These Heavenly Crisp bars are not calorie busters and there's a reason why:  there's nothing too them.  When I opened this up, I was surprised by the lack of size of this thing as it pertained to both weight and actual physical dimenions.  In terms of length and width, it is roughly the size of a Quaker Chewy granola bar.  In terms of weight, well, it compares to a piece of paper.  I'm kidding, of course, but there is not a lot of girth to this one as it clocks in at a tiny 0.77 ounces.  When I broke it open, I could see why.  This bar is basically just a typical wafer with a VERY THIN layers of peanut butter in the wafer.  The wafer is then covered by chocolate and has a peanut butter drizzle on top.

Once I got past the miniscule dimensions and actually took a bite, the flavor was not all that bad.  The peanut butter was definitely noticeable, but not all that strong.  The chocolate, on the other hand, took over the flavor of the entire bar.  Well, I should that it took over whatever flavor was available.  This thing was mostly wafer and that was the prevailing flavor.  After the wafer, chocolate was the next most noticeable flavor.  For a bar marketed as a Peanut Butter bar, I don't think that was supposed to happen.  Those Skinny Cow marketing geniuses must have named this one too.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Definitely FLY BY IT.  The flavor is not all that bad, but it really isn't memorable.  When you combine that with the smallness of these bars and also with the cost, you've got a loser here.  Stay away.

FLY BY IT!!
