Review: Bakery on Main Truebar I'm A Coconut Cashew Bar With Nothing To Hide

Bakery on Main likes to be cute with their product names and packaging and I pointed that out in my prior review.  Well, that cuteness continues today as I take a look at another one of their bars that I picked up in my new grocery section splurge at my nearby Marsh Supermarket for $1.99.  This Bakery on Main Truebar I'm A Coconut Cashew Bar With Nothing To Hide comes in at 1.40 ounces and has 190 calories and three grams of protein.

Since this bar has nothing to hide, it comes in clear packaging and has no coating.  Like how I so intelligently tied the play on words from the product name to the actual product itself.  Yeah, I'm brilliant...or something.  Anyway, within this bar was the standard rice crisp mix that was then blessed with copious amounts of cashews and coconuts hards, along with some tiny chia seeds.  What was odd about this mix was that it was held together by a paste that was milky white and I couldn't quite figure out what that was.  Coconut milk?  A particular kind of syrup?  It really doesn't make a difference in the grand scheme of things, I suppose, but it interested me at the time.  The bar also carried a mild smell of both coconut and sea salt that was hidden in its tiny granular form throughout the bar.  So, I guess the sea salt was hidden and this bar was hiding something.  See, Bakery on Main, I got you on that one!  Yes, I'm a loser.

Biting into this provided me with a bar that was chewier than I would have expected.  I expected more pop due to the presence of the cashews, but what really happened was the cashews and coconuts just made this very grainy as I chewed through it (the chia seeds certainly helped that too).  Totally unexpected.  In terms of flavor, this brought an initial mild taste of sweet coconut that was then punctuated by the sea salt flavor that intensified the longer I chewed.  Fortunately, there was a late lingering hit of coconut flavor that saved the entire bar from being taken over by saltiness.  The cashews themselves were a non-starter in terms of noticeable flavor, but that could have just been lost in the saltiness brought in by the sea salt itself.  Either way, this bar was both sweet and salty in equal parts and I, quite honestly, was not expecting that going in at all.

Buy It or Fly By It?  An unexpected flavor did not hamper my thoughts on this either way, it just changed what my expectations were.  I was expecting something that was all coconut, all the time and what I got was something that was both sweet and salty.  Despite that flavor differing from my expectations, I still have to give this a BUY IT rating as it was just sweet enough to that I didn't feel put off by the salty flavor.  It's not a great bar, but it is very much a solid performer that ends up being a mildly pleasing treat.

BUY IT!!
