Review: Kashi Honey Almond Flax Chewy Granola Bars

I mentioned in my previous Kashi review how much I count my pennies and that typically keeps me away from buying Kashi products, but based on a recent sale at Meijer, I picked up several of their products for review and that includes the subject of today's review with this box of six Kashi Honey Almond Flax Granola Bars that I picked up on sale for $3.00.  Each bar in the box is 1.2 ounces and 140 calories with a decent seven grams of protein considering the composition of the bar.

It seems like Kashi tries to take away the suspense with each of their products as they clearly blow the surprise of me typing out the appearance of the product by putting it on the front of the box.  Even with that, I'll give a few of my quick observations.  First, for a bar that includes honey as a primary named ingredient, this bar was not sticky at all.  It was dry to the touch and that was strange.  The almond component was also healthily represented throughout the bar as there were several large almond chunks spread throughout.  There was also some flax mixed in with the granola, but in terms of smell and composition, this was just about the most boring and basic bar that I have ever encountered in my reviews on this blog.

That basic appearance carried over to the description of the flavor as well as this bar was just a whole lot of blah.  The honey component really wasn't noticeable and the flax made this bar extremely dry and difficult to chew.  The only thing that worked well, in my opinion, were the large almond chunks as they brought great crunch and some pretty solid flavor to the party.  Outside of that, I can't say there was anyone else really at that flavor party because it was just boring, boring, boring.

Buy It or Fly By It?  If I use the same negative word to describe a product three times consecutively to end a product, there's probably a pretty good chance that the product is going to get a FLY BY IT rating and this bar definitely gets that.  It's a basic recipe, but sometimes basic recipes are quite good.  This one was not that as it was boring, essentially flavorless and far too dry for my liking.  Good thought, but bad execution on Kashi's part.

FLY BY IT!!
