Review: thinkThin Divine Dark Chocolate Coconut Bar

After my last thinkThin review, I was contacted via Twitter by a representative of thinkThin telling me that I need to try out some of their other bars.  Humorously, I had already beaten them to the punch and picked up another one of their flavors with this thinkThin Divine Dark Chocolate Coconut Bar that I was able to grab at Kroger for $1.25.  The bar comes in at 1.48 ounces and has a reasonable 170 calories and six grams of protein.

As with my last Divine bar that I took at look at, this one is based in a hard dark chocolate outer shell covering a very skinny bar.  The chocolate had no particularly strong dark chocolate (i.e. bitter) smell, so that was nice.  After breaking the skinny bar apart, I was pleasantly surprised by the coconut portion of the interior as it was clear that thinkThin was clearly hammering on the coconut aspect of this bar since the interior was ghost white just like a coconut itself.  It also had a mild and pleasing coconut smell to go along with it, so from an appearance perspective, this one was a winner.

As with the description of this bar, there's really only two components worth discussing when discussing the flavor:  the dark chocolate and the coconut.  First, I'll hit on the dark chocolate and I can honestly say that this was some of the better tasting dark chocolate that I can recall and I say that beause it didn't really taste like dark chocolate at all.  Yeah, I know that kind of defeats the purpose of dark chocolate, but I generally don't like dark chocolate because it is bitter.  This dark chocolate was very mild and did not really have any traces of bitterness in its flavor.  As for the coconut flavor, it started off mild and pleasing but then amped itself up the more it lingered in my mouth.  It never got to the point that it was too much, but its sweetness was very much needed as a nice counter play to the mild and basically bland dark chocolate flavor.  What made these two a nice combination was the sweetness from the coconut coated by the thickness and heartiness of the melting dark chocolate.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I wasn't expecting a lot going into this bar, but what I got was something that I thoroughly (and surprisingly) enjoyed quite a bit, so this gets a strong BUY IT rating.  The tameness of the dark chocolate and strong but not overpowering flavor of the coconut worked beautifully together and this was a very tasty bar that I'd recommend to anyone.

BUY IT!!
