Review: Caveman Nuts Almond Cashew Bar

On very rare occasions, I actually laugh out loud when I'm walking through the grocery store looking at the products on the shelves.  Usually it's about products that celebrities/athletes endorse (Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander's cereal "Fastball Flakes" are my favorite), but on a rare occasion, it's about a product that is actually trying to be serious in its marketing with this Caveman Nuts Almond Cashew Bar that I laughably found on the shelves of Meijer for $1.29.  This pre-historic (like the tie-in?  I'm so creative...not) bar weighs in at 1.4 ounces, has 210 calories and six grams of protein.

Clear wrappers mean very little mystery, as we all well know.  That said, once I peeked through that clear wrapper, I saw an ton of different components to this bar.  Included in the mix of the bar were almonds (big ones), cashews, pistachios, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds and sunflower seeds.  Those were just the visible ingredients too.  Once I looked at the ingredient list, I also "discovered" sea salt (I could smell that) and various syrups to hold the bar together.  All in all, this bar screamed nuttiness, saltiness and crunchiness.

That visual "screaming" played out in terms of the taste too, because all of those adjectives that I used to describe the way the bar seemed based on its looks applied to how it tasted too.  It was especially crunchy, although not teeth-breaking hard, which was good.  In terms of the nutty flavors, the almonds announced themselves by bringing pop to each bite along with a strong almond flavor.  The sea salt also had a strong presence as it made every single crunchy bite have a strong salty taste.  One thing that also added a textural feel to this bar were the variety of seeds that almost made the bar have a grainy mouthfeel once I got base the large pop of each of the nuts.

Buy It or Fly By It?  While I wish this had had some sort of sweet component to it to counteract the strong saltiness, I really can't complain about the overall taste of the bar and give it a BUY IT rating.  For a salty snack, this is absolutely perfect and if that is what you are looking for, this will more than fit that bill and provide an extreme amount of enjoyment..  If you are looking for something that is both sweet and salty though, you'll be missing out.  The other Caveman flavors in my store were sold out at the time, but after trying this one, I'm definitely excited to exercise my primal instincts again with more of their products.

BUY IT!!
