Review: Chobani Plum Blended Greek Yogurt

Bizarrely, I've decided to crave yogurt, Greek or otherwise.  Since I write this blog, I tend to not to like to eat the same flavor twice since it seems like such a "wasted opportunity" for me, meaning that I'm not going to eat a flavor of yogurt unless I can get a review out of it.  I've only got so many calories I can consume!  So, I love the fact that Chobani continually rolls out products for me to review and another one of those roll outs has led today's review of a limited batch product in this Chobani Plum Blended Greek Yogurt.  Now, I don't eat a lot of plums and quite frankly, when I think of them, I think of old people.  Not exactly a great start, but I'll try just about anything once.  Anyway, this single cup of Greek yogurt was picked up at Marsh for $1.25 and clocked in at the usual 5.3 ounces and packed in 140 calories and twelve grams of protein.  It's also 2% milkfat, so it's a bit fattier than the typical zero fat yogurt.

This is blended which means a lot of the flavor is blended into the yogurt, but as you can see above, this is a pretty basic presentation.  Just standard Greek yogurt that is kind of off white (almost tan) in color due to the blending of the plums and then there are some small chunks of plum spread sporadically throughout the container.  It did smell mildly fruity, but it was nothing to really write home about, although it is enough to write a blog post about!

Taking a spoonful of the yogurt first, I was met with a creamy yogurt that was pretty basic in the fact that it was tart and also dry.  Even though this was blended, there really wasn't a lot of fruity sweetness here.  Next, I went for a chunk of plum and it was somewhat sweet and had some fruity acidity to it.  Nothing worthy of a party, but noticeable.  When I mixed both components together, both ingredients pretty much cancelled each other out and all I got was a mostly plain yogurt.  There was a degree of tart, tang and sweet, but none of them were overly prevalent.  Really the only thing that I did enjoy in this is that the small chunks of plum did break up the creamy texture a bit.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I mentioned that when I think of plums, I think of old people (see editor's note below) and I think this is the perfect yogurt for old people because their taste buds have died off and they wouldn't be able to taste the fact that this is pretty bland.  Bland means not good things in my book, so this gets a FLY BY IT rating.  I'm glad I tried this one, but if I were to break my rule to not eat a flavor twice, I certainly would not break it for this.

FLY BY IT!!
Editor's note:  I'll leave this in here because it's funny that I'm so dumb.  A comment pointed out that PRUNES are for old people and I know that, but I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote this.  LOL.

  1. prunes = old people, not plums! lol. i love a ripe, juicy plum. they are usually pretty sweet and not tart. however, i wouldn't think plum flavored anything would taste good. i don't like greek yogurt anyway, so i'll definitely pass on this one!

    1. LOL, good catch. I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote that. Guessing I was in such a history that I just hammered that out real quick, because I do know prunes are for old people. I'll leave it in the post though just so people can laugh at how dumb I appear to be.
