Review: Meta Health Bar Cranberry Lemon Drizzle Bar

Meta Health Bars are something that I had reviewed one time previously and the only reason I was able to review that was because it came to me as a free sample in the mail through some Facebook promotion or something like that.  Until recently, I had never seen these bars in the store until I was meandering through Meijer and saw these hidden away from the normal bars and in the digestive products section (gross).  Since I finally found them in the store, I quickly grabbed up this Meta Health Bar Cranberry Lemon Drizzle Bar for $1.49.  It's 1.41 ounces and has 150 calories with two grams of protein.  Like I mentioned in the prior review and also the reason for this being near the digestive products, this bar comes as an extension of the Metamucil product line, so there is that.

Anyway, taking a look at this, it's easy to see that the bar primarily consists of an oat and soy crisp mix.  Within that rice crisp mix are many decent-sized dried cranberries and then all that mix (it's quite light) is topped off with a lemon drizzle.  In terms of the aroma of the bar, there is ZERO doubt that lemon is a major flavor component here as that lemon smell definitely stands out.  It's all bound together by honey and the typical other various syrups, so there is ideally that sweet component to compete with the tartness of the lemon drizzle and dried cranberries.

The smell was definitely a leading indicator of this as the most immediate and prevailing flavor of this bar is lemon.  It hits immediately and lingers through every single bite and every single chew.  It's not unappealing, but it is definitely refreshing, if you know what I mean.  As for the oat mix, well it really has no flavor, as you'd expect.  It's primarily there for texture and it does do a decent job of making this quite a chewy bar.  What is almost a no-show in this bar is the cranberries.  They really weren't noticeable to me until the very end of each bite where there was a minimal pop of cranberry sweetness and tang that jumped in and out at the very last minute.  All in all, this was lemon in all it's glory.

Buy It or Fly By It?  If you can't stand lemon, then get out of the kitchen...or at least don't buy this bar.  If you are cool with lemon (and digestive health), I think this bar is a pretty decent option.  I'm good with both of those things, so I give this a BUY IT rating.  Like I said though, just be aware of the lemon if this way does find its way into your cart, assuming you can find it in one of your local stores.

BUY IT!!
