Review: Yoplait Light Raspberry Cheesecake Yogurt

Anyone that reads the blog on a semi-regular basis has probably figured out that I'm a penny pincher and am not at all shy about admitting it.  I actually wear it as a badge of pride, so when I see something that is only going to set me back $0.20 at the store, I'm more than willing to grab it and I did it once already with these Yoplait Light products.  On that same trip, I decided I had another twenty cents to burn, so I picked up this container of Yoplait Light Raspberry Cheesecake Yogurt as well.  It's 6.0 ounces and has 90 calories with five grams of protein.  It's also free of aspartame if you notice the container and apparently Yoplait is quite proud of that as they've called it out on their website.  Apparently a bunch of people wrote in asking them to remove it, so they went ahead and found a substitute (sucralose), changed the lids to blue and changed the containers to indicate this big change.  Good for them and also us, I suppose.  Anyway, this is worth two points on the Weight Watchers PointsPlus scale too if you watch that.

I could have called what this looked like prior to even taking off the lid and upon actual removal of the lid, it looked exactly like I would have expected.  It was standard yogurt with pinkish coloring that had small bits of raspberry spread throughout.  It smelled alternately of raspberry and milky yogurt, so no big surprises there either.  All that was really missing from this presentation was the cheesecake component and based on my prior reviews, I was doubtful that would exist.

With a bit of doubt, I took my first spoonful of this expecting no cheesecake flavor and I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that there actually was cheesecake flavor.  It wasn't strong or powerful, but did not provide a nice compliment to the sweet and mildly tart raspberry flavor.  The yogurt then provided a nice creamy component to the raspberry and cheesecake flavors.  In terms of texture, the small bits of raspberry did a good job breaking up what could have just been an entirely milky and creamy package.  All in all, it represented what the name of the product intended and that's a good thing.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Again, nothing about this container was award winning or something that would make me want to climb to the top of the mountain to scream about it, but it did do a good job presenting the flavors that the name promised it would, so it gets a BUY IT rating.  It certainly helps that I was able to get this for twenty cents, so when that is combined with the flavor and the fact that it is a low calorie treat, this is definitely a winner.

BUY IT!!
