Review: Edy's (Dreyer's) Outshine Peach Fruit Bars

I've been trying to start hitting on a lot of these fruit bars in the frozen section of my local stores recently and that has caused me to take a look at several of these Edy's (Dreyer's) Outshine bars in reviews already.  Since there is a myriad of flavors, it'll take me a while to plow through them at all, but a recent sale at Kroger led me to pick up a box of six of these Edy's Outshine Peach Fruit Bars on sale for $3.00.  Each bar in the box is 2.7 fluid ounces and has 90 calories.  It's also fat free, so that's a nice little added bonus to eating these.

As you've seen in prior reviews, there's not a whole lot to these bars.  They are frozen ice bars made with fruit juice, so they carry the color of that fruit and that's about it.  I also learned in my last review of one of these Outshine bars that there are also chunks of the namesake fruit in these bars and if you peered closely enough into this, you could see that there were tiny little chunks of peaches (the bar was made of a peach puree according to the website, so that would explain why those pieces were particularly tiny), so that was nice.  The bar also had a mild peach smell, so in terms of what I was expecting, this bar met all those expectations, so that was a good start.

It should come as no surprise that this one tasted like peaches.  They were a bit sweeter than I expected, so I appreciated that quite a bit as you know that I'm a crazed sweets addict.  It wasn't overly strong peach flavor, but it was strong enough to make sure that I knew that this was peach.  Since this was a peach puree-based bar, there weren't big chunks of peaches spread throughout this, but those tiny little chunks that made it through the puree process did make it a bit grainy with each bite which was nice as it broke up the icy texture of the bar.  Speaking of that icy texture, I acknowledge that this is a fruit juice bar and it is expected to be icy, but this was a bit too icy for me.  It didn't ruin it for me, but most of these bars somehow manage to straddle the line between being icy/soft.  This bar leaned toward icy and I can say that was the only negative here.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Like I said, I didn't particularly care for how icy this was, but it didn't ruin the experience for me at all.  When it all came down to it, I liked the peach flavor in this bar and especially liked that it leaned toward being a sweet peach flavor, so that gets this a BUY IT rating.  Ultimately, this is just a modestly flavored low calorie ice bar and if you are looking for you to cool you down on a hot summer day (the day I ate this, it was ninety degrees and about one million percent humidity), then this will certainly do the trick.

BUY IT!!
