Review: Chobani Pink Grapefruit Blended 2% Greek Yogurt

I don't know that I've ever mentioned on this blog before that I do NOT like shopping at Target.  Maybe seeing all the red in the store makes me angry like a bull or something, but I generally try to stay away.  Okay, I'm just joking.  I don't go to Target because it's sort of out of the way for me and more importantly, I don't like their prices.  That said, I got a recent comment in a post about a couple of Target-exclusive products and in search of those (today's review wasn't one of them), I was able to stumble across another Chobani product to review when I picked up this single serving cup of Chobani Pink Grapefruit Blended Greek Yogurt for $1.19, which isn't that bad of a price.  The cup of Greek yogurt itself is 5.3 ounces and has 150 calories and twelve grams of protein.  I will say that the flavor that this decided to go after intrigued me because grapefruit was one of the things that my parents were addicted to as a breakfast food growing up and there was seemingly always one in the refrigerator.  I never took a like to it, so today's review will be an interesting look at how much my tastes have or have not changed since my childhood.

So, with the name blended, I would expect that the yogurt would be blended together, correct?  Well, those expectations were proven accurate as this one had a pinkish color coming from the Greek yogurt and grapefruit that had been blended together.  What it also included were some small bits of nearly pulverized pieces of grapefruit that were scattered throughout.  It also had a strong, tangy citrus smell similar to an orange, so there was no doubt that this was going to be pink grapefruit in all its glory.

After my first spoonful, I wasn't sure what to think.  Grapefruit has a lot of acidic tang, like an orange, but it doesn't quite taste like an orange.  This yogurt in particularly what quite tangy, although the Greek flavor did a good job cooling it down.  Now, I find that to be particularly funny that a tangy flavor is taming a tangy flavor, but in the case of the mix of the pink grapefruit and Greek yogurt in this cup, that is what happened.  I will admit that after the first spoonful, I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep going.  I'm glad that I did though because once you take in a few spoonfuls of this, it kind of grows on you and while it is certainly a different flavor than I'd typically go for, I found myself enjoying this by the bottom of the cup.  The little bits of almost pulverized pink grapefruit made this one a bit more fun too as it added some texture to what could have just been a cup of creamy yogurt (and it was creamy).

Buy It or Fly By It?  I've got to say that this one gets a BUY IT rating.  I went into this with an open mind, but I expected to give this a negative rating in the end (if that makes sense) based on my childhood experiences with my parents and grapefruit.  So, no one was more surprised than me that I ended up enjoying this in the end.  If you are a grapefruit person, I think you'll like this a lot.  If you aren't a grapefruit person (or just don't know if you are), this might be worth experimenting with because it may end up growing on you like it did me.  It's a limited batch though, so if you want to try it out, you better hurry because I'm not sure how much longer Chobani will have this in the stores.
