Review: Honey Stinger Lemon Organic Stinger Waffle

I thought I had bought all the Honey Stinger waffles available and I'd be done reviewing them, but much to my delight, I noticed that REI.com was offering a special deal on a couple of flavors that I had never tried out before, so I anxiously snatched them up for a test run.  The source of today's review obviously has packaging that's a bit dated and perhaps controversial since it glorifies a known cheater in Lance Armstrong.  Since I don't really care about the packaging (and sometimes endorse cheating) I was ready to try out this Honey Stinger Lemon Organic Stinger Waffle that I got from the aforementioned REI website for about $0.75 if I remember correctly.  Each stinger waffle is 1.0 ounces and has 160 calories with a non-existent zero grams of protein.

They don't get too creative with the way that these Stinger waffles look and I can't say I blame them.  It looks like a light waffle with a hard exterior shell with honey in the middle.  In this case, the honey was oozing, although that means nothing.  The waffle also had a faint smell of lemon to it as well, although it wasn't particularly potent.  Outside of that, there's not a whole lot to say here.

As I took a bite out of this, I can't say that they flavor was much different from most of these stinger waffles either and while that was disconcerting at first, I eventually came to the conclusion that it was just fine because these things are typically tasty no matter what.  As I was coming to that conclusion, I was finally met by a late arriving taste of lemon that more resembled a lemon zest type of fresh flavor than actual lemon flavor.  It wasn't particularly strong and was more of an accent flavor and I was more than fine with that since I enjoy these stinger waffles in their base form. As always, the hard exterior dissolved into a chewy (and gooey) interior that had some sweetness in it from the primary honey ingredient.

Buy It or Fly By It?  A basic stinger waffle with a hint of lemon zest flavoring on top makes this one a winner in my book, so I'll give it a BUY IT rating.  I dock things for being basic frequently, but I can't do it in this case as I find the basic recipe of these to be quite enjoyable.  If you see these on the shelves (hopefully with new packaging) grab one and I think you'll enjoy it too.

BUY IT!!
