Review: Fruttare Orange Ice Bars

These Fruttare fruit juice ice bars have kind of been like fire and ice for me in prior reviews (Get it?  Fire and ice.  Ha, ha...okay, not really).  I found some to be boring and others to be good just because they were unique flavors.  I'm thinking that today's review will fall into the former category because nothing about this box of Fruttare Orange Ice Bars screams delicious and unique to me.  My pre-conceived notions could be proven wrong though as they have many times on this blog.  I picked up this box of six on sale at Kroger for $2.99 and each of these bars comes in at 2.0 fluid ounces containing 70 calories.

Just like these other frozen fruit juice bars there's not a lot too them since they are just frozen liquid.  In this case, the frozen liquid is orange juice and that juice has a strong and authoritative smell of the namesake fruit.  Outside of that, this has a bit more softness and consistency to this as it is primarily juice, thus less watery and icy.

When I took a bite, nothing about this was one bit surprising.  It tasted like oranges and like I said when describing the appearance, the texture was more dense and soft since this is based primarily on juice and not water.  The orange flavor itself, in case you need a refresher on oranges taste, was both tangy and sweet and being that orange flavor is one of my favorite fruit flavors, I enjoyed that.  Two ounces of bar doesn't seem like a lot, but this is definitely big enough to serve as an adequate and calorie friendly dessert.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I can't say there was anything wrong with this bar as it came out to taste and perform exactly like I would have expected.  That said, I can't understand paying premium prices for something that is such a standard flavor that can be gotten for so much cheaper (even when these are on sale) and have pretty much the same quality.  For that price reason, I have to give these a FLY BY IT rating.  Flavor was fine, but ultimately I'm a budget minded customer and I just reconcile a premium for these in my mind.
