Review: Turkey Hill All Natural Raspberry Ice Cream

I can appreciate the all natural food movement.  I believe I've proven via the variety of natural and definitely unnatural things that I've eaten on this blog that it doesn't really matter to me whether something is natural or not.  Still, it's nice to eat an all natural product every now and then just to make me feel less bad about myself.  With that, I'll go ahead and add another Turkey Hill All Natural product review to my collection with this review of the 1.5 quart container of Turkey Hill All Natural Raspberry Ice Cream that I picked up on sale at Kroger for $2.49.  This is a limited edition flavor, so it won't be in the stores for long.  Each container of this all natural ice cream has twelve half-cup servings and each serving comes in at a fairly economical 150 calories.  Not too shabby.

In terms of product design, there's not a heck of a lot to this.  There's five ingredients (cream, milk, sugar and of course raspberries) and since there's a limited amount of ingredients, the ice cream in this container is pretty basic.  It's got that pinkish/purpleish coloring to it and it has a nice and definitely noticeable smell of raspberries.  Since it's not a super premium ice cream, it is not rock hard and has a bit of softness to it and that's something that I truly appreciate because I hate having to basically break my metal spoon to get ice cream out like I do at times with super premium flavors.  Outside of those very limited observations, there's nothing else really going on in terms of the presentation.

There wasn't a whole lot about this from the presentation aspect and the flavor, while nice, wasn't super exciting either.  That said, that is by no means an insult to this.  Actually, this tasted really good.  It was a firm, but manageable raspberry flavor with a hint of sugary sweetness.  In fact, it was extremely appealing and since it was such a smooth flavor, I thoroughly enjoyed it.  The fact that it essentially rolled right out of the container due to the fact that it didn't have the hardness of super premium ice cream made this even more fun to devour.  Since there are no add-ins or anything like that, this is definitely one of those ice cream flavors that you can just dig a spoon into, space out and then ten minutes later realize that you've eaten three times as much as you originally intended.  It's just that smooth and appealing.

Buy It or Fly By It?  It's a simple recipe and a simple flavor and it's a very tasty product.  For that, it gets a hearty BUY IT rating.  If you don't want to deal with add-ins and crunchy things and just want a nice and fruity tasting ice cream, this is definitely the answer for you.  Turkey Hill did a good job with this one and it's too bad that their plans (for now) are to have this as a limited edition flavor because I think this is one that should stay in the product catalog for quite some time.

BUY IT!!

  1. I agree that the Raspberry Ice Cream should be placed on the Turkey Hill Dairy Always available list. There is no permanent berry or fruit flavor of any kind that is available all the time. There should be at least a Strawberry or Raspberry Flavor always available!!
