Review: Skinny Cow Strawberry Shortcake Low Fat Ice Cream Sandwiches

So, after a long week, it's finally time to wrap up my adventure of reviews with this final Skinny Cow (for now) review of the Skinny Cow Strawberry Shortcake Low Fat Ice Cream Sandwiches that I picked up at the same Marsh mega sale as the rest of this week's reviews for $3.99.  Each box of includes six four fluid ounce sandwiches and each sandwich is 150 calories and worth a four point ding on the Weight Watchers PointsPlus scale.

I'm nothing if not consistent, so once again, I'll leave it to the Skinny Cow to describe this one:  "A low-fat swirl of strawberry and vanilla ice creams get scooped between sweet vanilla wafers."  So yep, there you go.  I can very much confirm that was a good description, although the actual product wasn't nearly as glamorous as the image on the box.  Food photography is such a wonderful thing, don't you think?  Anyway, the only other thing of note here was that the strawberry ice cream did have a very pleasing and mild smell of strawberry and being that I was craving that fruity sweetness at the time, that got me very excited.

Excitement would be a bad way to describe my feeling after taking a bite out of this.  A better word to use would be "pleased."  That's the best way I can describe this.  The flavors of strawberry and vanilla ice cream were definitely noticeable, but they were mild and pleasing.  Nothing that was going to slap you in the face, but you definitely knew what you were consuming.  The wafer itself was soft and dough and also added some extra sweetness and vanilla taste to this.  Strawberry Shortcake was obviously the motif they were going for here and I've got to admit, that they nailed it pretty well as the strawberry did a reasonable job emulating real strawberries, the vanilla ice cream did a good job of emulating the whipped cream portion and the wafers themselves did a good job emulating the shortcake itself.  All in all, it was a well-wrapped package.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Being that I described this flavor as pleasing and a reasonable approximation of its namesake, I'll give this a solid BUY IT rating.  It's not overly sweet or strong in anyway, but if you give this a shot, you could almost be duped into thinking that you'd had a plateful of the summertime mainstay dessert this aims to be.

BUY IT!!

  1. I liked the possitive review of this product. It's one of my favorites from skinny cow (behind the limited edition Cherry Chocolate Cones).

  2. They seem to have pulled this flavor off the shelves. I suddenly can't find it anywhere. Maybe it's just in my area.
