Review: LUNA Fiber Chocolate Raspberry Bar

While I've had varying success with LUNA products on the blog in general, my first experience with a bar from their new Fiber line of products was delightful, so to say I was excited to do a second review of this LUNA Fiber Chocolate Raspberry Bar would be an understatement.  The last one was delicious, so this one had to be delicious too, right?  Well, it doesn't always work that way and that's why I do reviews.  I picked this one up on sale at Kroger for $1.00 and it comes in at 1.41 ounces with a economical 110 calories and two grams of protein.

With these Fiber bars, you are getting something that is soft-baked and fruit-filled, so these look like a fruit stuffed cookie or breakfast pastry.  One other identifying characteristic about these bars is that LUNA dusts these with a layer of sugar on the top to amp up the sweetness factor and as my sweet tooth becomes more uncontrollable as I age, the site of sugar excites me even more.  One difference between this bar and the last Fiber bar that I reviewed is that what I'll call the cookie part had a darker coloring, which I assume to be because of the chocolate flavoring.  Within the bar was the raspberry filling, as I would have expected.  After taking my last look and before diving in to take my first bite, I took a whiff of the bar and what I smelled was a downright delightful combination of both chocolate and raspberry smells.  In fact, it was so delightful that it made my stomach growl and my anxiousness to try this out increased even more.

I know what I'm about to say may sound like an overstatement, and perhaps it is, but after my first bite of this, my eyes essentially rolled back in my head in delight.  This bar was delicious.  The chocolate taste was noticeable and sweet, but also retained a degree of decadence and a more noticeable taste than I would have expected.  The raspberry filling was both sweet and tart and was nearly the definition of perfection as it pertains to these raspberry fillings that you get in these snack/nutrition bars.  The soft-baked portion of the bar's name played perfectly as it was soft and chewy and essentially melted in my mouth into a batch of wonderful and decadent sweetness started by raspberry flavor, then capped by chocolate and then punctuated by the sweetness of the sugar crystals that dusted the exterior of the bar.

Buy It or Fly By It?  This gets an unbelievably strong BUY IT rating.  What made this a delicious bar is that each ingredient clearly had it's own flavor and that is not something that you can say about all bars.  Based on my first two tastings of these Fiber bars, LUNA has really nailed it with this product line as these are delicious.  I'll leave it to your imagination as to whether the fiber portion of the bar did its job (hey, I had to bring it up), but in terms of taste, this was an absolute delight and would advise everyone to grab one if they are looking for a low calorie and delicious treat with a degree of decadence.
