My last Fiber One 90 Calorie Brownie review left quite an impression because it was delicious. For that review, I ate it at room temperature and found it to be wonderful. Based on a suggestion from a reader, I heated it up the next time I ate one and it took it to the next level of awesomeness, so to say I was geeked to see if that winning streak continued with this Fiber One 90 Calorie Chocolate Chip Cookie Brownie would be an understatement. I picked up a box of six of these at Kroger on sale for $2.49 and each brownie is 0.89 ounces and has 90 calories (DUH) and has 20% of your daily fiber intake (on a 2,000 calorie diet). That's packing a lot of fiber power in a small package.
Based on the packaging, there's not a lot of mystery as to what this looks like. It's a chocolate chip cookie made up to look like a brownie. It's doughy like a brownie, although it did seem to be slightly dry and flaky. It also included chips in the actual brownie itself (like the cookie) and was then topped off by a decorative chocolate icing to add a bit more chocolate flavor. Outside of that, it is what it is.
As I bit into this (at room temperature), it seemed a bit dry to me and that wasn't all that wonderful. I prefer my brownies (and chocolate chip cookies) moist, as I'd assume most people do, and this was definitely not that. Don't get me wrong, the flavor was okay, but it just needed something to make it feel less like it was overcooked so to speak. The chocolate chips were as you'd expect them to be adding nice chocolate flavor and an occasional chocolate pop to each bite, but there was nothing wonderful about them. It was the same story with the chocolate icing...it didn't re-define the bar in any way, but the additional chocolate was nice. One thing is for certain though, this definitely lacked the WOW factor that the Chocolate Fudge Brownie had and that was disappointing.
Buy It or Fly By It? This brownie was basically just a plain chocolate chip brownie and nothing more. It didn't have spectacular flavor, but it wasn't bad either and could have done worse. Despite that tepid review, I still give it a BUY IT rating because it does still have enough flavor to provide for a nice little mid-day snack to help get you through. As a note though, I tried this a second time and heated in the microwave and it did get a little better that way as the chocolate icing and chips melted a bit to make this a bit more gooey, moist and decadent. Having learned my lesson, I know that I'll be heating these prior to eating from now on because it is a much more fun experience.

I really like these. It's probably my favorite of the 90 calorie fiber one brownies.
