Review: Quaker Stila Crispy Oat Cookie Bar with Strawberry

As I was preparing to write this review, I was thinking about the number of Quaker products/flavors that are on the store shelves of America.  In my mind, I was trying to figure out which number was higher:  the number of Quaker products/flavors or the number of dollars required to fund Obamacare (shoot me, it's close to election time).  I figured it was close, but unfortunately, I could never come up with an answer.  Nonsense aside, here's another Quaker review with this Quaker Stila Crispy Oat Cookie Bar with Strawberry.  I picked up a box of six of these at Marsh on sale for $2.00 and each 0.91 ounce cookie bar has 100 calories.

If you look at the picture above and then the name of this product (or vice versa), you are probably wondering the same thing that I was when I first saw this...how in the world did they decide to call this a cookie bar?  Nothing about it resembles a cookie, at least to me.  Anyway, this "cookie" bar had a hard, aerated exterior shell with little bits of oats strewn across the top.  For having such a flaky exterior (think puff pastry-like).  The interior itself had a red strawberry filling that was similar in texture to that of a breakfast bar, so not only was this not like a cookie on the outside, but it wasn't like any cookie that I've seen on the inside either.  Weird.  As for the strawberry filling itself, it did have a nice smell of strawberry, so it had that going for it.

Biting into this, the flaky exterior definitely made this one crispy to chew through, so at least that part of the name was correct.  The oat flavoring was virtually non-existent, but the strawberry filling was sweet, yet mild.  It definitely had that nice strawberry flavor that you would expect in a BREAKFAST BAR.  Combining that strawberry flavor with the crispy outer shell made a nice little flavor and texture match that was similar to Kellogg's Special K Pastry Crisps (a properly named product).  It's not outstanding flavor, but it is safe and moderately appetizing.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Safe and moderately appetizing is not a ringing endorsement of a product, but it is a positive one, so this gets a BUY IT rating.  Like a lot of these mass produced products, especially the millions that Quaker puts out, safe and appetizing is the ultimate goal as they are trying to appeal to the masses since they are a mega corporation after all.  Sometimes that is all you can ask and that's the case here.
