Review: Kellogg's FiberPlus Antioxidants Caramel Coconut Fudge Bar

I've been seeing a lot of coupons and sales for these Kellogg's FiberPlus bar recently and subsequently, I've been eating a lot of them and also completing reviews on them as well.  With that, I'm led to review another one of these bars with this review of the Kellogg's FiberPlus Antioxidants Caramel Coconut Fudge Bar that I picked up on sale at Meijer for $2.50 with a coupon.  Each box contains five bars and each bar comes in at 1.2 ounces with 130 calories and two grams of protein.  It's also marketed as having 35% of your daily fiber intake, so I guess you know what that means.

When I tore open the wrapper, the first thing I noticed was a very strong smell of both chocolate fudge and also coconut.  I certainly was not expecting that.  After putting the smell aside, I took a look at the bar and as you can see, it is constructed with a chocolate fudge base that is topped with the typical rice crisp mix which contained slivers of coconut and was partially bound together by caramel.  The bar was then topped with a "pretty" decorative swirl of chocolate fudge on top and without wasting any more time describing the bar, it's time to talk about the taste.

When talking about the taste of this bar, the first and last thing discussed should be coconut because it was a powerful taste in this bar.  And when I say powerful, I mean smack in the face powerful.  It was strong and sweet and when mixed with the sweet chocolate fudge, it became even sweeter.  Kellogg's markets this bar as a chewy bar and it definitely is that because when you are chewing through this you are met with sweetness after sweetness after sweetness.  It was so sweet that I can't even say that I really tasted caramel because of the strength of the taste of the coconut and then the rich chocolate fudge that coated over the top of it.  Still, it wasn't so sweet that my insatiable sweet tooth couldn't handle it and it's some of the sweetness of the coconut that made this bar so interesting.  You just don't see that many product out there that have coconut flavoring this strong, so it was a nice change of pace.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Despite the fact that I'm new to liking the coconut flavor world and not completely onboard yet, I still enjoyed this bar, so I'll give it a BUY IT rating.  That said, this was probably the most powerful tasting coconut product I've had that wasn't coconut itself and while I was okay with that, there are probably a lot of people out there that would not be.  If you are one of those people, stay away from this bar because it is all coconut, all the time.

BUY IT!!

  1. I recently tried this bar and it reminds me of those Samoas Girl Scout cookies! Not bad for only 130 calories.

    1. First thing that came to mind when I saw the name of this bar: "hmm, that kind of sounds like Samoas".

I'll have to give this bar a try; it's probably at least somewhat healthier than actual Samoas cookies.

I Have had a problem the last 3 weeks trying to find it in the stores. Please tell me where I can purchase this bar. Peggy M
