Review: Fage Total 2% Greek Yogurt with Honey

I don't think it is any secret at this point that I mostly only buy things when they are on sale.  I hate paying full price for items and the store and will only do so if I'm insanely curious about how it tastes or I just have to have a product.  Because of this, I've been resistant to purchase Fage Greek yogurt products because I've been waiting for them to go on sale.  Recently, that finally happened at Kroger and I picked up this Fage Total 2% Greek Yogurt with Honey for $1.00.  Each single serving container is 5.3 ounces and this particular one had 190 calories and twelve grams of protein.

As you can see from this, Fage kind of designs this as a choose your own adventure type of product as they have separate compartments for both the honey and the Greek yogurt itself.  In terms of appearances, the yogurt was quite stiff and did not jiggle at all when I shook the container.  The honey was certainly pure honey as well as it was also quite stiff and stick and required some effort to get it stirred up.  In terms of the smell, the yogurt was especially tart smelling and the honey itself was strong and sweet smelling as you'd expect from what was clearly real honey and not some factory produced approximation of honey.

In terms of taste, this container comes down to two different products.  If you eat the yogurt alone, you are going to be overwhelmed by the familiar Greek yogurt taste of tart and tang.  It's extremely strong and had I been forced to eat just this plain yogurt, I would have never finished it because it was too much.  With its texture and taste, I would almost go so far as to describe it as sour cream and if you ever had a recipe calling for sour cream, this would be a more than able substitution for it.  On the other hand, when I added in the honey, it saved the day as the strong sweetness of the honey (which required some intense stirring to soften up) perfectly counteracted the tartness of the yogurt and actually turned this into something that was more of a sweet treat with a slight tang than it was anything else.  It was almost dessert like when you mixed everything together because it had such a wonderful degree of sweetness.

Buy It or Fly By It?  In terms of the total package with everything mixed together, this was delightful and I give it a BUY IT rating.  This is the best of all the honey flavored Greek yogurts that I've had as the honey in this was more the star of the show rather than an afterthought flavor that was just thrown in to give a different taste.  Had the honey not been present, this would have been a loser, but since it was present, this is a definite winner and I'm curious to see what the other Fage products that I picked up have to offer now that I had such great success with this one.

BUY IT!!

  1. all of the flavors are delicious IMO, my favorites being strawberry and blueberry. The 2% offerings are wayyyyy better, but the fat free aren't bad either if you are watching the calories.
