Review: Talenti Caramel Cookie Crunch Gelato

One of my early reviews on the blog was of Talenti's Sea Salt Caramel Gelato and I loved it, but for whatever reason, since then I have not done another Talenti review or even had any Talenti gelato for that matter.  Not sure why, but maybe I was waiting for it to go on sale or had other things on my mind, but armed with a coupon from their Facebook page and also a sale at Meijer, I was ready to pick up another couple pints for reviews.  For this first review, I'll be reviewing the Caramel Cookie Crunch gelato that I picked up for $3.50.  Each pint contains four 220 calorie servings.

Structurally, this pint consists of a ghost white vanilla gelato base.  The gelato itself is thinner than typical ice cream, but not nearly as thin as a frozen yogurt.  Swirled within the pint (as you can see in both pictures since they have a clear container) is an extremely generous amount of caramel and also chocolate cookie pieces.  If you want to do a comparison, think of your standard Oreo cookie top and that's basically what the chunks of chocolate cookie resemble.  As I said, these add-ins are quite liberally spread throughout the pint and being that add-ins are what make the difference in ice cream/gelato/yogurt product in my mind, I was exceptionally eager to dive in.

When I dove in, my eagerness transferred into sheer glee as all of these components worked well together.  The caramel was sweet and gooey, but not overly done in either aspect.  The chocolate cookie pieces added in a nice chunk and when you mix the chocolate with vanilla gelato, you've always got a nice combination.  What topped that mixture off was the caramel swirl which added another taste and textural component to the entire equation that was symbiotic with all the other ingredients.  As for the gelato, it had a strong vanilla flavoring, but as you'd expect from a gelato (and as I mentioned before), it doesn't really have the creaminess of ice cream and if you can find a way to get past that, you are really going to love this pint.  I know I did.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Definitely BUY IT.  I don't know why I was such a goof that waited so long to buy another Talenti gelato product for a review, but I'm certainly glad that I took the leap and bought another because as I said, this was delicious.  If you see it in the store on sale (or not on sale), you should definitely pick it up because this is flavorful and an excellent treat.  The only warning I will give you though is that if you don't pay attention, you'll catch yourself devouring this pretty quickly.  I gobbled up two-thirds of the pint before I even realized it (when I read Dubba at On Second Scoop's great review of this afterwards for comparison, it seems he had the same problem!).  That makes Talenti two-for-two in positive reviews in this site and I'd say that's a pretty good start, wouldn't you?

BUY IT!!

  1. I'm eating Talenti galato belgian milk chocolate mmmmm...Heaven in my mouth. I bought it for the first time last nigh. I've glad I did too. I looks like icecream but it's different. WhenI get it out of the freezer it's not as hard as icecream is. It's very creamy ;-)
