Review: Skinny Cow Dulce de Leche Low Fat Ice Cream Single Serving Cup

In my continuing quest for my own personal ice cream portion control to not be a total glutton in 2012, I'm led to do another Skinny Cow single serve low fat ice cream review, although this time I'm focusing on the Dulce de Leche flavor of their single serving cups.  This one clocks in at the usual 5.8 ounces and I picked it up at Meijer for $1.25.  This one contains 150 calories and scores as a four pointer on the Weight Watchers Points Plus scale.

This one is a little different compared to some of the other single serving cups as the base ice cream in this one is actually caramel ice cream as opposed to vanilla (all low fat, of course).  The caramel ice cream provides a tan coloring and definitely lets you know that this is trying to be caramel and not your standard vanilla.  The cup is then littered with well proportioned and spread stripes of gooey caramel and based on looks alone, this one passes the Dulce de Leche test as it contains all necessary components that you'd expect to find.  So, we are off to a good start.

The good start continued into my first spoonful as I could definitely taste the caramel in the low fat ice cream, although it was not overly strong or overly sweet.  As you'd expect with a low fat ice cream, the taste was kind of thin, but it did provide a nice caramel sweetness to each spoonful.  The caramel was gooey and wonderful, although it was much like the ice cream in that while it was sweet, it was not overly sweet.  Dulce de Leche can tend to be overly sweet if had alone, so Skinny Cow did a decent job bringing some sweetness to the table on this one, while doing a good job of not allowing that sweetness to overtake you or this single serving cup.  That's a good thing in my mind.

Buy It or Fly By It?  This is another winner in the single serving cup category for Skinny Cow and I've got to give them credit for once again attaining a BUY IT rating.  If you like caramel, but don't want to be overpowered by it, this is definitely a good choice for you.  Even if you are ambivalent toward caramel, I think you'll like this flavor because it is a mild, semi-sweet and pleasing treat.

BUY IT!!
