Review: Nostimo Honey 0% Fat Greek Yogurt

In my continuing adventure to review every single non-store brand Greek yogurt in the refrigerator cases of my local grocery stores, I'm led to the newest entrant in my review adventure with this review of Nostimo Honey 0% Fat Greek Yogurt.  I'm not familiar with Nostimo and apparently the world isn't either since they don't have any sort of web presence.  I do know (since I read the container) that "Nostimo Means 'Delicious'" (it's on the label), is made by Topco Associates in Skokie, Illinois and it appears to make budget-type (read: lower cost) products, but that's all I've got.  As for the product itself, it is six ounces of yogurt, 150 calories and has fourteen grams of protein.  I picked this up on sale at my local Marsh for $1.00.

Opening a product from an unknown manufacturer for the first time is sometimes an adventure, because like Forest Gump said about boxes of chocolates, you don't know what you are going to get.  In this case, I ripped off the lid on this yogurt cup and what I saw was a lot of water and also chunky/clumpy yogurt.  Not exactly an appetizing look, to say the least.  After I stirred it up to mix in the water, I got what you see above and that's not all that much.  It's thick, white (the picture makes it look off-white, but it really is milky white) Greek yogurt that has a VERY mild smell of typical Greek yogurt tartness and no real smell of honey and/or sweetness.

As I took my first spoonful of this, the budget product rang true in my head because this was just about the most boring Greek yogurt flavor I've ever had.  The tartness of the yogurt was extremely mild and the honey flavoring only hit at the very end of the spoonful and what honey did hit was extremely mild in its sweetness as well.  The one thing this did have going for it was that it seemed more creamy than most Greek yogurts and in fact, I would compare its creaminess to that of a regular yogurt.  Basically that means that it was not as thick as most and felt looser in my mouth.  Other than that, there's not a whole lot to say about this because one could almost fall asleep while eating this.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Giving final decisions on products like this is tough because I'm never sure what to say. The flavor wasn't bad or offensive, so I can't review it negatively in that way.  It also wasn't memorable or particularly tasty, so I can give it a positive review either.  Basically, it was just a budget product that exists solely to give some variety at the store and for that seemingly boring reason of existence, I have to give this a FLY BY IT rating.  Unlike the lid says, Nostimo does not mean delicious in this case and if you are in a store that happens to carry this, grab a product from one of the major manufacturers (Chobani, DannonStonyfield, Yoplait, etc.) and leave this one on the shelf.

FLY BY IT!!

  1. I buy this at my local Cashwise grocery and it's only 0.88 each. I always get the plain flavor because it only has 90 calories and 7 sugar. Just add a dash of Stevia and save yourself the extra calores.

  4. I'm actually eating a cup of the Nostimo peach yogurt as I'm writing this. I think you might just have had a bad cup. Every cup of Nostimo yogurt I've had has been very smooth and creamy, in most cases much more so than Chobani. The taste is mild and very creamy, and the consistency is very smooth, as opposed to the chunky cups of Chobani that I've had. And the liquid on the top of your yogurt was not water, its whey.

  5. I love it. It's much better than Oikos and just as good as Chobani or Fage which are my other favorites, and it's a lot less expensive. Try the pineapple or peach next time!

  6. From: Melanie in Minnesota. My friends, family and I love Nostimo yogurt, ALL flavors. When I first tried it I couldn`t help but spread the word. I am not really fond of other greek yogurts because they are too tangy. This yogurt is thick and smooth, with a mild flavor. It is also very filling. Maybe CF Dude got a bad container. I`ve been satisfied 100% with every purchase. I was searching for coupons when I happened upon this article. My local store has Nostimo on sale for $.77 and I was looking to sweeten the deal even more.

  7. I have been smitten by this yogurt. As CFD commented in a blase' sort of way, I have to say to each his own. Picked this up on a whim and have been with it ever since. The texture (once thoroughly mixed) is thick and creamy almost like a rich sour cream. Water is present on top once you open the container, but there is nothing chunky or lumpy in appearance. With any flavored selection, stir from the bottom to get all the fuity or honey goodness well incorporated. My favorite with the honey flavor is to spoon it on fresh fruit or use it as a dip. The price is right,(never over a $1), I'm not paying for ton's of advertising and no film star is hawking it's creamy goodness. I figured that out on my own and saved about $.50. Well done Nostimo, a quality product without all the hype.

  8. I just opened my fat-free Meijer store-brand yogurt and the lid under the lid was Nostimo. So apparently Meijer re-brands the Nostimo as its own - or vice-versa.

  9. I only like one flavor of yogurt and that is pineapple. I have purchased every brand on the market but this one is the best

  10. I love Nostimo and I buy it at Piggly Wiggly in Wisconsin. I think you should try it one more time in a different flavor. I've tried the rest and Nostimo is my favorite and I love that it is less than a dollar.

  11. Nostimo is a private label (store brand). Yes it is made by Topco that makes 10s of thousands of products for a variety of different warehouses and stores. This particular brand, Nostimo, is only sold in stores that are customers of Affiliated warehouses. This reviewer should know what the hell he is talking about, because he is wrong! They are delicious!
