So, I eat a lot of yogurt and you can probably tell that if you are a regular visitor to the blog. Greek yogurt or regular, non-fat yogurt, frozen yogurt, whatever...it does not matter to me. I'll eat nearly all of it. As with the majority of my shopping trips, I was blindly fumbling my way through the dairy section of the grocery store recently and came across a new seasonal offering, or Seasonal Delight as they call it, from Dannon's Light & Fit non-fat yogurt line, of which I've done plenty of reviews. This Caramel Delight comes in a single serve, six ounce cup and has 80 calories and five grams of protein. I picked it up on sale at Meijer for $0.50.
When I tore this open, it was pretty much what I'd expect from one of these Light & Fit yogurt cups. The yogurt was thin and jiggly like a classic yogurt and had a brownish hue to symbolize the caramel flavoring of this cup. So, visually, there were not a lot of surprises or big productions. After my visual examination, I took a sniff and mostly what I smelled was Dannon Light & Fit's typical vanilla yogurt, which I have gone on record saying that I love. Still, I was expecting some sort of caramel smell and when I didn't get that, I became slightly worried that all I was going to get was vanilla yogurt that happened to be a different color.
Fortunately, that isn't what I got. I did get a yogurt cup that had a strong taste of tangy vanilla, but the very end of each spoonful was accented by a taste of caramel. The caramel in this wasn't of the sweet variety though, but instead of more of a burnt caramel flavor like you would get if you were making a caramel syrup for a brittle on your stove top. It's not a strong flavor, but it is noticeable. The real focal flavor in this yogurt cup is the vanilla and the caramel is a closing accent to each spoonful. Even with the burnt and vanilla flavor, this was still cool and refreshing and I thoroughly enjoyed this.
Buy It or Fly By It? I'm going to give this a BUY IT rating. It's not an awesome product, but it is pretty good and if you are a caramel freak like me, you'll be delighted (like the play on words with the name?) to eat this. Even if you aren't a caramel freak, I still think you'll enjoy this because it is a non-offensive flavor that will certainly mix up the monotony of a typical vanilla yogurt. Better make sure you get your hands on it soon though since it is a seasonal flavor, although I'm not sure how long the "season" will last.

This is a good flavor. The problem for me is finding out how to use it...I usually eat yogurt in the morning with fruit and granola/cereal. While the caramel flavor alone is great, it did pair all too well with blueberries, grapes, or strawberries (my usual yogurt ad-ins). I bet apple would work well though.
ReplyDeleteI like to lightly freeze these. Not all the way, but enough to firm up the texture a bit. Much better.
ReplyDeleteCan't find this anymore. Wish that they continued to make light coffee flavored.
ReplyDeleteAdd just about a 1/4 tsp or so instant coffee to the vanilla flavored light and fit single serving - tastes great with plain granola, almonds and about a table spoon of chocolate chips! eat it every morning on my work break I keep the yogurt/coffee in one small container (stir with my spoon on break) and granola, almonds, choco chips in another container, then mix together when I'm ready to eat. I look forward to it, love it! ...complimented with a small side of cut fruit... holds me over till lunch time.
