Review: Walden Farms Balsamic Vinaigrette Salad Dressing

Next in the Walden Farms review series is a Walden Farms Balsamic Vinaigrette Salad Dressing that I picked up at Kroger for a not quite reasonable $3.69.  I've had many balsamic vinaigrette dressings in my life and I've also made my own, so I was anxious to see how this calorie free version compared.

Texturally, this one is definitely less oily than your typical balsamic vinaigrette salad dressing, but it is somehow more watery and runny.  Outside of that, the color is similar and there's not much else to to write about here.

In terms of taste, this one is not all that close to a regular balsamic vinaigrette dressing.  It lacks the saltiness and the bite of a regular dressing and it's actually quite noticeable.  That said, it is a reasonable enough approximation that you at least know that you are eating a balsamic vinaigrette and if you are cutting calories, it is a semi-acceptable alternative.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I would say to FLY BY IT.  For the cost and the weak flavor, it's not really worth it.  That said, if you do have an overwhelming urge and actually do buy it, I have a little tip for you:  mix it with a little bit of good, old yellow mustard.  The mustard is also calorie free and it will give you the salty bite that you are looking for when you eat a typical vinaigrette dressing.  That said, it will also obviously make the dressing a bit less watery and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

FLY BY IT!!

  1. I recently found a bottle of the Raspberry Vinaigrette so I'll have to see how that compares with this.

    1. I've had both and raspberry is better, in my opinion.
