Review: Ben & Jerry's Peanut Brittle Ice Cream

Ben & Jerry's has a seemingly infinite amount of flavors and when they continue to roll out limited batches and flavors influenced by sketches on comedy shows, they will seemingly never run out.  I was spending some time at Walmart recently, saw this Peanut Brittle Ice Cream and thought to myself "I like peanut brittle", so I decided to give it a shot.  A pint of this is 260 calories per serving (four servings per pint) and I picked it up for $3.39.

The ingredient list says that this one is made up of "Peanut Brittle Ice Cream with Peanut Brittle Pieces and a Caramel Swirl."  I have no idea what Peanut Brittle Ice Cream actually is outside of ice cream with peanut brittle in it, but I'm willing to put those reservations aside to give this one a chance.

As you can see, Peanut Brittle ice cream is apparently a light brown in color.  If I had to use my brilliant mind, I would say that they took vanilla ice cream and mixed in the ingredient that you would use to make peanut brittle.  Don't quote me on that brilliant theory though.  As for the rest of the ice cream, I was surprised by how big the caramel swirl was and since I love my caramel, I loved that.  The peanut brittle pieces were also sizable and quite plentiful as well.  I'm the kind of ice cream guy that loves mix-ins, so anytime I get an ice cream with lots of mix-ins (and also large ones), I'm a big fan.

With my first spoonful, this was everything I hoped it would be and more.  There was a definite strong peanut brittle taste and I certainly appreciated it.  The caramel swirl also added a nice gooeyness to the ice cream as well (I let it sit on the counter for a few minutes to soften up the ice cream a touch since that's the way I prefer to eat ice cream).  The plentiful peanut brittle pieces also added an awesome crunch to this too and being a crunchy junkie, I really, really liked that.  They tasted like peanut brittle as well.  With the amount of mix-ins that were in here, some people may find that to be too much, but I found it to be just right.  As usual though, I didn't remember to snap a picture until halfway through the pint, so we are left with what you see above.

Buy It or Fly By It?  If crunchy is your cup of tea, then you should definitely BUY IT.  I wasn't expecting a whole lot of out of this one (I was suspecting better than average, but that's about it), so this one far surpassed my expectations.  Honestly, I wouldn't say this was awesome, but I will say that it was very good.  If I ever decided to get the same non-Limited Batch flavor twice (I usually try to get a different one each time in order to try all the varieties), this one will go on the list to buy again.

BUY IT!!

  2. @Rodzilla: I can see that and somewhat agree. Still, this is not a bad flavor though and it certainly has a lower calorie count than Clusterfluff/What a Cluster!
