Review: Fiber One 90 Calorie Pumpkin Soft-Baked Bars

Yet again, the world is over-pumpkined.  As I was browsing through Kroger recently, today's product jumped up on me as I was rounding the corner from one aisle to the next.  Sitting innocently on the end cap of one of the aisles were several boxes of Fiber One 90 Calorie Pumpkin Soft-Baked Bars and being that I had never seen these before since they are limited edition, they were on sale AND I had a digital coupon (the most important part), I knew that I had to grab a box of six for $2.79 (before coupon) to add to the ever-growing Fiber One review collection.  Each bar in the box is the obvious 90 calories with less than one gram of protein, which is kind of funny.  On a positive note though, this 0.89 ounce bar does contain 20% of my daily fiber intake (or what would be 20% if I actually ate a 2,000 calorie diet).

Mega manufacturers like General Mills don't often leave a lot of room for imagination and that's exactly what happened with this box of Pumpkin Bars since there was a graphical representation of them right on the front of the box.  That said, it is worth saying that this "baked" bar did look like the box said it would and it was definitely soft.  The pumpkin "baked" section of the bar and within that were little chunks of cream cheese icing chips.  On top of the bar was more cream cheese icing and it was clear based on the smell that this was a pumpkin-flavored bar with a bit of spice.

During my first bite into this soft bar, I was immediately met with a kick of spice like I'd expect from a pumpkin-flavored product.  It was not overly spicy, but it was definitely present and accounted for.  That spice was quickly cooled by the cream cheese icing chips and also the icing on top of the bar as well.  Those two icing components brought quite a bit of sweetness as well, so that was something that totally counteracted the spice of the pumpkin bar mix.  There was a bit of sweetness from the pumpkin bar too, so that was nice as well.  One thing I will note is that the pumpkin soft-baked section of this bar was a bit more moist than I've come to expect from these bars, so that was a nice change of pace as a lot of times these Fiber One soft-baked bars turn out to be dry and flaky.

Buy It or Fly By It?  This was a solid performer and brought just enough hints of sweet and spice, along with pumpkin flavor, to make this a tasty treat and a good representation of the now overplayed fall flavor combination.  For that, I certainly give this a BUY IT rating and if this sneaks up on you at the store, it's worth picking up if you are a fan of the pumpkin flavor combination.

BUY IT!!
