Review: JELL-O Sugar Free Caramel Creme Mousse Temptations

Growing up, I was terrified of mousse.  I know that sounds absurd, but my mom had this mousse mold that she used to make varieties of mousse, dips, et cetera and I always found them disgusting.  I wasn't the most adventurous child when it came to food, so whenever it came out, I ran the other direction.  Sadly or humorously, depending on how you look at it, I carried my mousse fear into adulthood until the past few years when JELL-O introduced their Mousse Temptations line of products to supplement their normal gelatins and puddings.  Now, I love caramel and was feeling a little frisky, so I decided to give this Caramel Creme Mouse Temptations flavor a shot by picking up a six pack at Meijer for $2.50.  Each four ounce cup is sugar free and is 60 calories.


Upon ripping this open, the color of this surprised me.  I'm no savant, but caramel is usually brownish in color, correct?  Well, this one was an off-white color and that was odd to me.  The one thing that it did have and you could see it just by looking at it was the airiness that mousse usually has (and was advertised in the photo on the packaging).  Because of this airiness, these cups are lighter than a typical pudding cup, despite being the same size.

After my first spoonful, I could definitely taste the caramel, but it was not strong.  Another odd thing about this was that it kind of oozed around in my mouth and had a degree of what I would call chewiness because I can't think of another way to describe it.  That was definitely odd, but once you get accustomed to it, it's not unappealing.  Other than that, there's not a whole lot else to say becaue this doesn't really bring much else to the table.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Well, despite the fact that it doesn't bring a lot to the tabe, I would still say BUY IT.  The usage of the name "Temptations" is a funny one here because you would expect with that name it would be something sinful, but it really isn't.   That said, it's just different and appealing enough that it is worth your purchase.  Don't expect your socks to be knocked off with this one though or else you'll be disappointed.
