Review: Better Oats oat revolution! Oatmeal Raisin Bar

In previous Better Oats reviews, it was revealed that these oat revolution! bars were a secret test being done in select markets.  I'm not sure if these are still a secret test or they have been released to the wild, but my company had some of them thrown out at snack time again recently and being that this Better Oats oat revolution! Oatmeal Raisin Bar was the only one that I had not reviewed yet, I snatched it up so that I could do a write-up here on the blog.  This bar itself is 1.23 ounces and has 130 calories.  The oats are steel cut, so yea-rah!

As you can see in the photo above, this looks like pretty much a standard oatmeal raisin bar with one key exception...there is a vanilla icing swirl on top.  Outside of that, the bar is the standard oat mix with some good-sized raisins included in the mix.  There's also a hint of cinnamon in there that I could smell too, so it's all of the breakfast treat in convenient hand-held form.

In terms of taste, the base of the bar had what I would expect in taste.  Chewy oats and raisins, a hint of cinnamon heat and a hint of sweetness from the raisins.  As with the appearance of the bar, the one key difference was the vanilla icing on top and I can honestly say that it made a world of difference.  The icing not only brought an additional hint of sweetness to the bar, but it also brought a melting quality that just draped over each bite of the actual bar.  I know I use this word a lot, but I'll go ahead and use it again by saying that the melting icing brought a decadent quality to what is essentially a very basic flavor combination.  That decadent quality was borderline addicting to me.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I've always held Quaker Chewy bars in high esteem and always thought that their version of an oatmeal raisin bar was the standard for moderately sized hand-held breakfast treats.  This Better Oats product has caused me to re-define my world and declare that this is the best oatmeal raisin bar that I've ever had, so it clearly get a BUY IT rating.  I didn't think it would ever be possible to dethrone my beloved Chewy bar, but Better Oats had done it here and hopefully they put this one out to market because it is downright to delicious.
