Review: Walden Farms Bacon Dip

A little while back I was on Netrition.com making a large purchase of new Walden Farms products to try out, some of which I've reviewed already, and while perusing the list, I saw a new dip that seemed unimaginable to me in a zero calorie form.  That dip was none other than the Walden Farms Bacon Dip and since I didn't see how this was possible, I knew that I had to add a jar to my order to try it out.  Like I said, I got this off Netrition.com for $3.79 and each twelve ounce container is zero calories, sugar free, etc.  Basically, is the same old, same old for Walden Farms.

I have to admit, I was very fearful to try this because I wasn't sure how you could make a bacon dip into a zero calorie treat.  I like the majority of Walden Farms products a lot and have the utmost confidence in their products, but even this one seemed out of sorts for me.  Still, I screwed open the jar and what I came across was something that actually looked like a bacon dip and I was entirely amazed.  It was a slightly looser version of bacon dip, but it did include small little "bacon" pieces (hilariously, these are called "Imitation Bacon Bits" in the ingredient list) and also smelled of a bacon dip, although it did have that slight acidic vinegar smell.  At this point, anyone that is surprised by that from a Walden Farms product...well, I just don't know what to say.  The "creamy" portion was slightly tan in color and being that Dijon mustard is listed as one of the ingredients, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that is the reasoning for that.

Anyway, as I dipped my cracker into the jar to try this out, I was pleasantly surprised by what I found out.  While it was not as creamy as a bacon dip, it did have that nice smoked flavor that you would get in a typical dip that included bacon.  That smoky flavor was then complimented by a nice tang of the Dijon mustard.  The imitation bacon bits also broke up the mildly creamy texture of this and even added a little grainy component to this as I went through it.  Frankly, this could end up being addicting as it is very flavorful.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I loved the dijon mustard tang in this along with what is a "creamy product" for Walden Farmsso I say BUY IT.  It's not bacon dip itself, but as always with Walden Farms, you have to make sacrifices and you do that with this dip.  I know this won't be for everyone, but if you are willing to make a couple sacrifices, this dip is definitely for you to try out.

BUY IT!!
