Review: Planters NUT-rition Digestive Health Bar

Well, I now have something to brag about...I'm faster than Mr. Peanut and his webmaster.  I've done Planters reviews before, so when I went searching for a product information page for this new bar (check the box), I logically went to the Planters website and found absolutely nothing.  I found a link to the actual mixed nut mix, but not to the bar itself.  So, I guess this Planters NUT-rition Digestive Health Bar is so new that not even the Planters team can keep up.  Lucky me.  Anyway, I picked up a box of five of these bars on sale at Meijer for $2.50 and each bar is 1.23 ounces and 150 calories with four grams of protein.  It's also high in dietary fiber, so the bar is obviously designed to help you down there, if you know what I mean.

Planters markets these as chewy bars and from my experience, I wouldn't classify them as that.  Actually, I'm not sure what I'd classify these as because they aren't particularly chew or crunchy.  That said, this bar is made up of a healthy and fairly well proportioned amount of almonds and nuts for the crunchy component and then that is mixed with oats, cranberries and cherries for the chewy component.  Again, all parts are well spread throughout the bar and if you go by the looks test on this one, it certainly passes because all components are present, visible and wholly accounted for.  Not a lot of bars can say that, so that's a good start.

As for the taste, well, it's pretty much as you'd expect.  The almonds and peanuts brought a strong crunch to the bar and the almonds actually had a strong taste.  The cherries and cranberries, while not individually discernible, brought a nice sweet tang to the crunch of the nuts, but not so much tang that it made your teeth rattle and that was particularly nice, because sometimes those two dried fruits together can be a teeth rattling nightmare.  The oats added the necessary "chewy" component to the bar, although since the taste of the almonds and berries was so strong, it was really only there for texture.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I can't say I was overwhelmingly impressed by this bar,  but I wasn't disappointed by it either.  It was a solid tasting bar and since it helps with...well, you know...I'll give it a BUY IT rating.  Don't go into this expecting to have your life re-defined, but you can at least go in here knowing that you are going to get a solid tasting bar and a decent snack.

BUY IT!!
