It's funny, writing for this blog leads me to eat an absurd amount of variations of the exact same product and/or product line. All of my Greek yogurt reviews are a great indicator of this. Once again, I've got another Yoplait Greek yogurt review for the series of reviews, and this one is the Peach flavor. As with the others, this one is in a six ounce container, has zero fat, 160 calories and packs a walloping fourteen grams of protein. I picked this one up on sale at Meijer for $1.00.
Opening this container, the first view looks no different than the others. The container starts off with the milky white, creamy Greek yogurt on top. Once you get through that the peach bits and peach "jam" are below the yogurt and need to be stirred in to create a nice mix of peach flavoring. The peach pieces are roughly the size of BB pellets and the "jam", while not plentifully, is graciously spread throughout the bottom of the container.
So, it looks like peaches, does it take like peaches? Well, that's a tough one to answer. The peaches themselves taste like little bits of peaches, albeit canned ones, but they do have that mild and sweet taste. But, when you mix it with the Greek yogurt, that unique peach flavor is lost because it's not strong enough to overpower the yogurt, yet its also not weak enough to be overpowered by the yogurt itself. What you end up with is a blend of semi-sweet, semi-tart weirdness that doesn't really taste like anything that I can place. It's not a disgusting taste, but it's also not one that I would willing seek out.
Buy It or Fly By It? FLY BY IT. Based on the taste of the peach bits alone, I had high hopes for this one. After eating everything mixed together, my hopes were dashed and this one turned out to be a failure. That's disappointing because peaches are one of my favorite summer fruits and I would have loved to have that flavor available to me in an appetizing form on a year round basis. Oh well, back to the drawing board for another yogurt flavor I'm sure.
